Ravens Trade News: Marcus Peters, etc...

This is just insane. Damn this is a potential game changer in the afc because when jimmy is back and healthy come playoff time, that’s a secondary of marlon Humphrey(near DPOY level play), earl Thomas, Marcus Peters, jimmy smith, and Brandon Carr, that is ridiculous. And even now while jimmy is hurt, we now have 3 stable corners.
Don't over hype it! Marcus Peters is by no means a perfect CB, Jimmy is still hurt with a significant injury with no timetable for return. We are thin at safety with rumors floating of Brandon Carr filling in there. And we still lack a solid pass rusher.

It's a good move on paper but it's by no means gonna make this D elite or as good as it was last year, although a much needed improvement is all we need at this point. I also hope we hold Jimmy out until he is fully healthy, his injury has setback written all over it, so hopefully we don't rush it and he will return when he's good.

Question is, in a year that should feature more trades/potential trades than any other year...will the Ravens try and make another one.

Also ILB Zach Brown just got released by the eagles if I was Decosta I would be all over that.

Will it be possible to sign him and Marlon?

OTC has us at $62M in cap space heading into next season after signing 51 players. More than enough to sign both, also have to figure in that Jimmy Smith is a free agent after this season as well. With him being unreliable due to injuries/suspension, re-sign Peters and get Humphrey done and our secondary is set.

I’m aware of all of this and don’t need you raining on my parade and then following it up with more unfounded Zach brown hype

Why the obsession with this guy...

possibly - depends on how EDC wants to build this defence in the future - jimmy smith's contract comes off the books, carr only has 1 more option year left, TJ's salary probably comes off (we may well cut him) and we have loads of cap space opening up - on top of that the new CBA (by all accounts and predictions) likely makes salary cap jump even higher

its perfectly possible to pay 2 or 3 guys in a secondary at market level rates - the only issue will be if they both re-set the corner market in back to back years (or even in the same offseason) - we would still fit it under the cap but that would be a large amount of cap hit in 2 players at the same position

if we were to re-sign peters it would be in our best interest to sign him as soon as we can - likewise marlon

It'd be really cool if we could get both of them locked up, assuming Peters does well with us. I'll try not to get my hopes up too soon.

so far id just like to see peters play first lol - he's got maximum 3 practices this week if he's going to play sunday (not sure how likely that is) - im hoping maybe weddle gave him some parting tips on some of our playcalls lol...

if not he's got the bye week and the week after that to get into the playbook and then we'll see how he goes

The good and bad with this deal happening right now is he knows the Seahawks players and so does Earl Thomas. Peters player then two weeks ago or something like that. Could be good and could be bad but that’s all we have going for us on that end. We’ll see how that goes

the bad part of that is that he got absolutely torched by wilson in coverage in that game 2 weeks ago lol

Yeah didn’t he play mostly against Lockett? Pretty sure he did and he destroyed him. I definitely wouldn’t put him on Tyler regardless. That would be a mismatch if there ever was one.

I’d really like to see us trade for an ILB or an interior DL. I don’t think we’ll be able to get an edge guy I’ll just waive the white flag there but if we can somehow shore up interior at LB & DL we’ll be good. I’d also look into bringing back Henry and play him at edge in a McPhee type of role.

Yeah I’ve always seen Jimmy and Marcus as similar players. I would only trust Humphrey on Lockett. I can’t believe we didn’t draft Tyler when he came out. I know a lot of us wanted him bad here for us

I love this move. Young has arguably been regressing, and while we're sending a 5th, we could easily recoup an even earlier selection in the following draft via a compensatory selection. It either, one, adds a much-needed asset and rounds out our entire secondary that we lock-up after this season, or two, functions as a short-term rental that doesn't hurt our defense in the meantime and is likely to give us a larger return value if the experiment fails.

Peters has Pro-Bowl, even All-Pro talent. When he's on, he's on. However, the one sentiment I'm leery to concur with is the notion that he was hampered by Wade Phillips' scheme. Going back to last season, some of his gaffs in one-on-one situations were almost comical. I can appreciate the confidence to an extent, but there were simply way too many plays on tape where he was lost at the stem so quickly, you'd have the thought he was playing the under with safety help. Here are the ones that I was able to uncover thus far (Link1, Link2, Link3, Link4, Link5, Link6). These are instances of incredibly undisciplined approaches on intended island-esk scenarios. That being said, after a woeful start to last season, he's fared mostly well in general since the second half of 2018, and he may still have untapped potential if the mistakes are eliminated. I am very much looking forward to seeing what he does for us.
