i mean he literally changed position - it's not rocket science to suggest that may have contributed to him sucking in 2020 but looking great in 2019

Not being great at short area quickness doesn’t make a good slot corner either

which statistics?

The exact reference I am making, which I will try to dig up and see if it is a free article, is a PFF article that ended up totaling up rookie scores from multiple years and noted that rookies tend to score 20-25 points lower regardless of round when compared to 2nd year players (with smaller jumps for 3rd and 4th year players and a small jump for 2nd contract players). Now we can argue about the merits of their scoring system, on an individual, but when you pool data together and it shows a consistent trend, that trend is something to be noted.

But are those 2nd year players better because they got the experience their rookie year?

alternatively is there also an implicit bias within the scoring (because of how it's done) that known players are given the benefit of the doubt more on plays where it's not obvious what went wrong - maybe they get a +1 instead of a 0 on a particular play or maybe a rookie gets marked down on a bust where it's not obvious who was wrong necessarily so it gets lumped on the rookie...

obviously it's less biased than some other aspects but their system is likely to reward veterans with better grades

also likely that 2nd year players are playing more often and likely getting better grades because they're playing more snaps and there's less variance in their scoring (or alternatively their grades might not qualify because they didnt play enough snaps)

it's obviously likely that guys get better as they play more and get more experience

i dont think its in any way clear that it's bad to have rookies earning starting jobs

So many variables it’s not funny. If a rookie earns his spot, then that’s that. Thank God for said rookie

Doesnt matter. I have not had a chance to look for it (got an email asking me to do something for work), but they were specific about accounting for draft position and playing time and it did not matter, the results were consistent. If you start as a rookie you are going to, on average, be a below average NFL player. Now yes you are likely to be a good year 2 player, but you are going to likely be a weak link year 1 hence why having 3 rookie starters is scary.

Then it makes absolutely no sense and the data is flawed considerably by assumptions. Based on this data, it sounds like you should just bench all rookies in year 1 and throw them into the fire in year 2
