Next Up: @ Dolphins

Roman has been running the running backs less than any of the last few years for obvious reasons. Last week towards the end of the game we got a little something going. I'm wondering if an acclimated Freeman and Bell can be more effective than they were 2 months ago. Like what if we just sort of ignore what's happened and say we're the fucking Ravens and we're gonna run it down your throats because we want to and you can't stop us. And let's just see what happens.

I guess my point here is, maybe it's time to just try and check back in to our identity because we haven't in a long while. We all know there's zero chance of stopping this offense if the running game picks back up to compliment the passing attack.

i think the difference is that we dont need that to be our identity - what's ultimately been game-changing this year has been our ability to adjust to what the defence gives us and take advantage...

it's only really the chargers where we didnt have to adjust because they played their normal defence against us and gave us light boxes and free gaps and we ran over and through them all day from the beginning...

but the lions and broncos and colts decided we were not gonna run on them at all - the lions dared us to beat them over the top (and we should have), the broncos we adjusted early and massacred them off play-action, the colts completely took our running game out of the game and then dropped 7 into coverage frequently and lamar just dink-and-dunked his way down the field

the vikings decided they were absolutely not gonna give up the big play in the passing game - the adjustment took longer than maybe it should have but eventually the ravens found joy with interior and power runs and taking what the defence gave them underneath

this isnt the 2019 or 2020 ravens - we dont need to emphasise the run... it'll either be there or it won't - but if it's not there, that means a team has committed resources to that and has likely left holes to exploit in the passing game

It's really cool to reflect like that and see how many different ways we've won. Yeah if teams are doing their hw they should see you can't just expect stopping the run will win you the game. It just doesn't. I just know when we are running it down teams throats, we get that bully mentality and blow people out. I think for us to go on a big run, we gotta find a way to get back to being bullies.

and i think we do have that bully mentality - it's just that it's not all about the running game - the receivers and mark andrews have co-opted some of that and are starting to have that swagger about them as a unit now that they know you cant keep them out of the game forever

the problem with relying on bullying in the run game as a tone-setter is that we really dont have many maulers on the OL right now - Tyre's got a bit of that to him in terms of moving people off the line but he's not a finisher, ben powers has a bit of nastiness to him but he's ultimately not that great lol... the best mauler we have on offence is pat ricard... and he's the only guy that's certified - nick boyle hopefully will add another name to that list but im not expecting him to be that right away

but i think you'd be hard pressed to find an OL in the league who doesnt enjoy leaning on a DL and moving downhill - and if a team gives us a light box or a man advantage in the running game, villanueva on pulls and bozeman in space can be erasers - but they've not necessarily got that mentality 24/7 like you'd want in a run-game bully

Injury reports:
Murray and Mekari are doubtful, not expected to play
Watkins, Boyle and Brandon Williams are all questionable. Watkins practiced in full today, so expectation is that he'll play. Other two seem to be genuinely questionable. Boyle seems like a lock to return either tomorrow night or next week against Chicago.

The Soulja, The Lizard King, and Batman together on the field at the same time?

As a long time ravens fan, I don’t think I’m ready for this level of greatness.

If we had the snaps to spare to get back to our identity, we would, but we got games to win and we gotta do what works

I hear you. If not that though, then as @rossihunter2 was saying we've got many ways to win, we just need to be able to adapt more quickly than Q3 and Q4.

This team needs to clean up defensive lapses and adapt on offense faster. If they can those 2 things, we'll go far

I am really concerned, because the tv coverage on this game is 100% “ravens are going to smear their shit across the dolphins faces and drag their balls across they mommas foe heads and ain’t shit the dolphins finna do about it” and idk man we don’t ever seem to respond well to this overwhelming media love and hype.

it makes me way more nervous than i should be

It is for this reason why I think we're losing tonight. I keep seeing the "look what happened the last few times the Ravens played the Dolphins." Heck, the more I think of it and the more I type, the less confident I feel in this game. Some fuckery is about to happen and I'm gonna be hella disappointed in a number of players. I can feel it. I feel like it's gonna be one of those nights we were cuss some players out.

FUCK!

FUCK!

coming off an overtime game on a short week - seems like we're not getting boyle or williams or wolfe back (so still not many reinforcements although it's nice to have westry back)

on the plus side though it's not like we're coming off a blowout win or anything - our last 2 games were getting blown out by a division rival and a comeback win against an inferior team

but there's definitely a danger of overlooking this game

that being said lamar and hollywood are unlikely to ever look past a miami game just because of their heritage
