Would you like to join the unofficial Tyler Linderbaum fan club founded by me? I'm still the lone member of the group
If he's a generational talent like most pundits speak of, then he'll grow with Lamar and provide enough protection up the middle. I really don't know much about him other than he trains with Yanda and he has glowing reviews as a Center. Supposedly has higher grades than most Centers in a decade.

Fuck it. I'm joining it. If he's drafted by us, he's going to be this year's Brandon Stephens. Why I say him?

Simple. I remember when he got drafted by us, a number of people didn't like the pick at the time. Heck, SOMEONE even said "who the fuck is this piece of shit?" My response was that this "piece of shit" was gonna be a key piece of our defense in the future. Hmmm....

Let me be clear - I don’t dislike him at all - my question with him is about anchor and fit

If he’s the pick at 14, then great - I’ll be disappointed but excited

But id definitely prefer someone else

I wonder a few things on Lamar's contract or lack thereof:

1. Does Lamar want to be here? (The answer seems yes)
2. Is Lamar the kind of person who is so focused on winning & getting better he does not emphasize stuff like the contract business? Would make sense.
3. Is Lamar betting on himself because he feels Ravens lowballed him?
4. Is Lamar waiting to see other deals come through before he signs his?

I really struggle with these, but I honestly gravitate towards #2. I think he just doesn't care about the money right now. I think he is so focused on winning and getting better the money part is second to him. I say this because people who care about nothing but getting better get tunnel vision here. I can speak for myself here on this because I have done this very thing--got so good at some skills and spent so much time training there I didn't care about the pay until I decided it was time to focus on me than the money. I think when Lamar feels the urgency to do it, he will. I don't think it's #1 (fair question, though) & I'm not sure it's really #3 or 4.

So many guys have already signed before him--there's literally almost nobody left except Mayfield & Murray honestly who are/will be eligible. I don't think Lamar is getting lowballed by Ravens because everything I heard suggests we know the price tag. So, this leads me to believe it is #2.

Anyway, just wanted to chime in here
The problem I have with #2 is you really can't say you don't care about the money, now or in the future, and refuse to hire an agent to negotiate the biggest contract in your life.

People that opt to go without agents are people who very much DO care about the money. That's why they don't want to see 10-15-20% of it go out the door to somebody else.

Even if you get four 1st round picks for Lamar you are still at the mercy of the NFL draft to find a replacement. It wouldn't make sense to give up young proven talent for a crapshoot. You either crush your cap for the all-pro QB or take your chances setting your franchise back in the draft.
...you're not wrong. I think I'm a little more optimistic, perhaps, at our chances of building a very strong young team with the draft assets gained. I'm not even talking about necessarily getting a qb replacement in the draft. As we've seen, there are vet qb's that can be had at a more reasonable pay rate that can guide a team.

Two things can happen: Lamar improves or stays essentially the same and his value stays the same or climbs. Lamar declines and his value declines. In the first case, we have to pay a premium to keep him and the premium climbs as related to that performance. In the second case, his value drops and his desirability even here comes into question - can he lead this team, is he worth the investment?

I think that there are a couple forks in the road where the team could benefit if they feel they are at an impasse.

Arden Key visiting today. It’s been said that he’s planning on taking all of his scheduled visits before deciding so wouldn’t expect news today though.

Never been a big fan of key, but cool if we land him for a value deal, not the worst rotational guy

there was a difference with Stephens and Linderbaum. There wasn't much tape on Stephens and many didn't even know who he was. Linderbaum is excellent, but he has clear weaknesses and that could be an issue with the Ravens and playing in the AFC North and in our scheme. I wouldn't be upset completely upset if we drafted him, but I also don't think he will be bpa at 14.

Situational pass rusher with inside/outside flexibility would be a nice pick up - will fit well in the rotation playing about 1/3 of the snaps - don’t need him in on early running downs a lot

Price dependent of course but would like this pick up

We're not signing Tretter. It's obvious. Here's the data.

Clearly didn't give a single fuck about Bozeman. We'd already moved on.

Tretter was still a Brown at the time we moved on mentally from Bozeman.

We didn't make a run at any other center.

Theres been plenty of news surrounding guys we're interested in and they're all defensive guys.

Recently it's been Smith, and now Key and Green.

We already just signed Ricard and we're likely gonna get at least one edge just don't know who.

We also got from Jeff that we're really trying to bring Campbell back too.

There's no way given these things we're signing Tretter.

Now I'm just fundamentally not qualified to say whether I think Linderbaum is a guy who makes sense for the Ravens, is good or bad value, has a high ceiling etc etc.

But with that being said, I can understand the Ravens feeling ok to have Mekari at C because well they've played him there before. The thing is though, by doing that you're totally removing your 5 spot back up and swing T from being available to play that role.

It's possible they also feel TCC is classic 80 20 rule with Bozeman even though given what Bozeman got that's probably literally impossible.

Which leaves your last option which is Linderbaum or a Guard they think they convert. If it's Linderbaum he's the day one starter. If it's a guard they want to convert that couldn't possibly be a day one starter and that means your back to Mekari/ TCC.

I don't see for next year game one any option other than Mekari, TCC, Linderbaum.

Yeah of course he cares about the money, but he may not have it as a high priority right now. He probably thinks focusing on getting better is more important because it will solve the money thing for him. There will be a time when the money will be higher priority than it is now is my thinking. There’s no reason he has anymore imho to delay the deal because his competition has gotten their deals

Final post in this thread of thought. The more I think about it, my guess is the Decosta has one conditional in his head.

If a crazy talent falls like Gardner or Thibodaux you take him because you have no choice.

Then you can potentially still be aggressive and try and trade up for Linderbaum.

Else no crazy talent falls in which you trade back, gather picks and take Linderbaum.

My guess is that we're trading back for Linderbaum
