I think it's also silly to say the Bengals have a liability type defense. That defense did pretty solid and came into its own as the year went on last year. Was it great? No. Was it terrible? Also no. It was good enough to support the offense.

that's exactly the point though - it was a solid defence that was able to adjust and shut down the chiefs in the 2nd half of the championship game only a week after everyone was decrying that defence no longer mattered after the bills-chiefs shootout

bengals defence was the reason the bengals even had a chance in that game late
