Signings, Cuts, Trades

right now with rule of 51 i think we're ok in terms of signing the draft class but will probably need to make those kinds of moves at some point this offseason for when rule of 51 ends and also so we have some money for injuries and practice squad call ups and for contingency purposes - just makes it more inevitable that boykin and powers are cut in the end... but unless a team's gonna throw a pick at us, there's no reason to do it now (as much as i just want boykin gone lol) unless there's a guy who becomes available on the market that warrants more than vet minimum type money
Perfectly said

I don't know how recovered from injury he is but would be a good camp body and potentially a steal if he is fully recovered. Can't believe how much the ACL injury hurt him, went from a 1st round pick to undrafted and then signed in a terrible situation in Jacksonville with Urban Meyer. I think we could get him back to the player he was with the proper coaching he would get here opposed to Jacksonville.

He's not healthy. That's why he was cut.

Oh damn, he's still not fully recovered from his ACL injury?
Never played well coming off of it and then apparently played his last year at Alabama on a torn meniscus. Have to imagine that knee is pretty torn up, especially if a team is cutting him now.

Having lived with a torn meniscus for almost 11 years now, that injury is a gift that keeps on giving. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve just been walking and for no reason at all my knee crunches and buckles and springs back and swells up for the next month.

Glad we didn’t draft him, he was getting all the mocks to the ravens

yep and only because he played for 'bama.

I'm really curious what becomes of the Mayfield situation. It sounds like the Browns have an unrealistic price in mind when it comes to a trade. I can see them ultimately cutting Baker, and the bidding war begins between Pitt, Hou, and Car. If he went to Pitt, the AFC North would be crazy. All four teams would have a great shot at the playoffs.

1. I don't think Houston wants him at all. If they did, they would have just included him in the initial trade.
2. I'm not sure that Pittsburgh views him as better than Trubisky. Maybe they do, but I still don't think he ends up there.
3. Carolina I think is just going the draft route. Same situation as Houston, which is if they really wanted Baker, they'd probably already have him. Cleveland knows the price for him right now is super low.

Ultimately won't be surprised if Cleveland just keeps Baker. I think they know Watson is going to get suspended, and probably for like 4-6 games, so if they view themselves as a contender still, they'll want somebody competent in there.

Talk about an awkward work environment. I don't see Baker growing up and handling that situation with class. Also, that's a lot of money to pay a back up QB.

Cleveland is a dysfunctional mess so it wouldn't surprise me, but I think its more likely they just lower the asking price or straight up cut him.

I wouldn't be shocked he stays too. They have to pay him the money anyway so why not force his hand and make him play if Watson is suspended? If he refuses to play the org ends up saving. Be spiteful right back with his entitled ass.

I would be shocked if he stayed. That locker room is going to be a nut house

Well I believe his option is guaranteed at this point, so they don't get cap relief from cutting him, though there probably is offset language in his contract, so may be able to recoup some.

Frankly, its going to be humbling for Baker anyway. He's not got many suitors, teams don't even seem willing to give like a day two pick at this point to get him, and I honestly don't know what his market will look like if he's a FA, but I highly doubt anybody pays him $18.8M.

So if he wants to maximize his paycheck and rebuild his value a bit, Cleveland is probably the best place to do it. He can play well for whatever games he's out there, and then hit FA next year.

Agree with the dysfunctional locker room, but I think if he's not going to be humbled by this, he never will, so I don't know how much worse it can get.

Because they want to win, not just save money and having a starting WB who actively doesn’t want to be there (during the suspension) makes that goal beyond reach.

I can't wait for the scheduel to come out. We better be gifted the Browns in the first 4-6 weeks to get one last bashing on baker before we start hunting the women predator (hopefully with Jermaine Johnson and Odafe having a lot of meetings in the browns pocket)

Side note, I know he is cut but I wonder what JC Tretters stance or opinon on what Cleveland did. I was in Ohio with my family 2 weeks ago and every women who previously blindly defended the Browns to a fault - claimed there disgust and that they will never support the team again

Speaking of JC Tretter, can he come play center for the Baltimore Ravens.....

I think there is only one other team that also can be a realistic spot: Seattle (unless they draft a QB).

I don't really think anybody is off the table if they're drafting rookies, because I think some of these rookies may very well need a year or two to develop as QBs. Not a lot of guys I see in the first round look day 1 ready to me.
