Clowney returning to the Browns on a one year deal. Says he turned down multi year deals worth $15M because he wanted to be back in Cleveland.

i mean so what...
it's not like at this point in the offseason we're looking at back-breaking contract numbers
i'd rather spend some extra money on a guy who will contribute than hoping for something we've never seen before from someone even more injured just because he's cheaper
In my post I said I prefer Fuller. But Fuller was just on a 10m dollar deal. Do we have that kind of money?

What do you think he'll go for roughly?

no idea - but i think that landry only getting 6m (3m base) is instructive of how depreciated the WR market is right now
id be surprised if fuller got much more than that and would be less than surprised if he got much less

If so I think he's definitely worth that. But clearly the Ravens don't feel so pressured. They've actually sat back and made 3 moves before any WR. So idk if they are even in on him.

Guy who has chased money his entire career supposedly changed his tune to play in Cleveland.... nope not buying it for a second.

i can buy that he turned down multi year deals, i can buy that he wanted to be back in cleveland to capitalise off the fact that myles garrett hoovers up so much attention, i can even buy that they were worth *up to* 15m a year... but my guess is that they were 2 or 3 year deals with basically not much more guaranteed money than he got on his 1 year deal with cleveland and he still gets the chance to hit the market again

WR market's gone very quiet - we heard around the the post-draft time that we were in on lots of free agent WRs, but landry's name was the only one that got brought up specifically (most likely because his agent dropped the name to try and drive his market)

we know we've talked to some guys, and only one guy's been signed since... they certainly dont feel like there's a sense of urgency it would seem

Totally agree. But what's the point? They are happy with the guys in house or they're trying to get Fuller for even less???

probably waiting for the price to come down, or waiting for the hand to be fully healed (if it isnt yet which is likely)

i think it's clear from their hopes of drafting WRs in multiple different rounds that got sniped or just didnt make it that they clearly arent satisfied with the guys in house - they clearly like them and rate them highly enough that they're not just gonna add any old random veteran room-filler or progress-stopper, but not enough to not look to improve the room with another starter-level player

plus, we need another warm body - we've got 4 WRs right now... and unless a udfa makes a massive step (and while you can hope for that you can't expect or plan for it) then we've still only got 4 and that's not enough

For sure! We definitely need another guy. But as you said they're not gonna add just any old guy. Could be totally wrong but maybe they think one of the really big UDFAs or Victor may actually be in line for the back of the corps. The other option is they're already planning a deadline day trade. Or maybe they'll just sign Julio or Fuller in a month or so for dirt cheap.

I'm not saying they're gonna go with 4 or anything, but I have my doubts they're counting on anything significant out of the EIGHT undrafted guys (6 this year and 2 from previous years) we have on the roster currently. It's much more likely that because the WR market is stagnant and there's really no pressure to make a move, they're just going to let these guys run around in OTAs and we'll see if there's anything worth a damn there. Obviously they're hoping one steps up but none of those guys are a solution, nor should they be pretending like any of them are a solution. We've got a shit ton of big guys but if you asked me right now, I'd say the tinier guy in Bolden has the best shot for ST reasons.

Yeah I guess if they see that none of these guys are it they'll be happier to reach out to a Fuller or something

I don't even think it's that really. It's just that there's no movement so why sign a veteran right now for no reason. Let that market continue to percolate and let the prices drop, or see if it gets saturated with some other names. In the meantime, stack your roster with young lottery tickets and hope at least one sticks. I don't think they're counting on any of those guys and I'd also find it very hard to believe we make it through the 1st week of training camp with all 8 of those guys still on the roster. Just a quicker way to weed some out.

We'll the reason to sign someone now if they're now is if you believe there is someone in particular who fits what you want to do and ensure that you get that guy. There clearly doesn't seem to be that guy for the Ravens

While I agree, the reality is there's probably only like 1-2 guys on the market that we actually "like". I doubt we're in on like 4-5 FA WRs.
So the longer you wait, you just run the risk of another team signing them first. I'm sure we're in communication and said players' agents will almost certainly try to play teams off each other, but I really don't see prices dropping any further than they already have. The draft is over, all of your quality UDFAs have long since signed with somebody. The only thing that changes the FA market now is training camp and OTAs, where their prices could theoretically increase, if somebody suffers an injury.
Sure, there's guys who will be cut who we could bring in, but that's September and a total ?.
If anything, it could be the players themselves who are waiting to sign. A lot of these veteran guys, especially with injury histories, aren't big on OTA's or training camp anyway. They very well may wait until August to sign.

I don't think he gets more than 4m with 2.5m guaranteed
