Signings, Cuts, Trades

lol i think he genuinely had a better chance of making the roster than TJ...

Zrebiec has talked about it a bunch, he's been unlucky to be the guy in all the highlights for the receivers but that's not actually been typical of his play during camp - that and he's a good special teamer
So it would have been 7 corners but only 4 S?

Exactly. It takes some assurances and trust of course, but why would you not hold onto guys that would need to be exposed to waivers instead of these vets? You get benefits from releasing them and then signing them to the PS so they're going to do that wherever possible. Not that it's always doable but you have quite a few options this year and not all of them are coming right back to the 53. Flexibility came out of Covid and we've taken advantage of that.
agree. We have too many players that are borderline and I'm hoping they aren't exposed. Ross, Mack, Washington, etc...

i think washington's probably going to have to be exposed - even if we assume TJ's the first one out, think it's gonna be hard for them to keep geno and washington given washington's lack of special teams prowess

given his injury last year, think the team will risk him and hope he makes it to the PS

Right now Washington may be a little behind Geno due to him having more playing time, but Washington is extremely versatile. I wanted Washington drafted starting in the late 3rd early 4th round of 2021. I hear what you are saying and you probably are correct, but no way he clears waivers, I just don't see it.

i mean i guess we'll see but a year removed from being a highly touted udfa (but udfa nonetheless) having not played a single down of regular season football, and having only just been activated off the PUP list a couple of weeks ago, i find it very unlikely that teams will submit waivers for him

geno's ahead of washington because he's got more actual regular season experience but also because he's a 1st unit special teams player in a year where we've lost 2 of our 3 most prolific special teamers over the offseason and the 3rd is firmly on the bubble also...

absolutely understand why Geno's ahead of him and I like Geno as a player. Seems like a smart player in the mold of Chuck Clark, but I like Washington because he's a playmaker and very versatile player. Too bad he was injured last year, because it would have been a great way for him to get some playing time.

You are right though, he may be able to clear waivers just because he just came off PUP, but he's put some pretty decent tape out there as well.

Given the need at EDGE right now and especially at SAM, will be interesting to see if we put any claims on anyone during cutdowns - someone like Quincy Roche who I loved in the 2021 draft may well be getting cut by the Giants and he'd definitely be someone i'd be interested in us bringing in...

obviously we've all talked about darius slayton before too although not sure he's as in demand maybe as he would have been pre demarcus

think the ravens are consistently at the top of this list every year
EDIT: to be clear, "original signings" means draft picks or udfas - 49 players around the league currently started their careers with the ravens

Darius Slayton would need hand replacement surgery or a position change to defense before I'd be interested in him. He just can't catch.

for sure - and dont get me wrong im a big fan of his (just like many of us were in that class) but worth noting that lots of this great play was in the 4th quarter in preseason games

id love it if we found a way to keep him on the 53 because, as you say, i think he's a playmaker at DB and a pretty nice fit in macdonald's defence too and maybe with JAD and Pepe's niggling injury issues and MP only coming back to practice a couple of weeks ago too, they decide to keep washington as the 7th CB/5th S

Final guess...

QB (2): Jackson, Huntley
RB (5): Dobbins, Davis, Hill, Badie, Ricard (FB)
WR (5): Bateman, Proche, Duvernay, Robinson, Wallace
TE (4): Andrews, Boyle, Likely, Kolar*
OL (10): Stanley, Powers, Linderbaum, Zeitler, Moses, James, Phillips, Mekari, Cleveland, Faalele
DL (6): Campbell, Pierce, Madubuike, Jones, Washington, Mack
ILB (4): Queen, Harrison, Welch, Ross
OLB (4): Oweh, Houston, Hayes, Ojabo*
CB (6): Humphrey, Peters, Fuller, Stephens, Armour-Davis, Williams
S (4): Williams, Clark, Hamilton, Stone
ST (3): Tucker, Stout, Moore

Once Kolar and Ojabo go to IR, Bynes and Means/other pass rusher join the 53. I have Urban and Jefferson on the PS in this scenario.

I'd argue it makes sense to go young over a veteran at OLB too. Assuming Bowser and Ojabo come back, that suddenly makes it a very deep group and it's hard to see them guaranteeing a vet with that in mind. Take a chance on a young guy and if they hit, great. If they don't, you waive them with no repercussions.

i think this is where im at too

basically our options for vested vet handshakes are:
Davis, Urban, Bynes, Means, Jefferson, Seymour (if he's healthy enough to factor) and i think you've probably picked the right ones there

although bynes does feel risky as the starter (and last year's starter too) - but he's the very definition of a vested vet so maybe not

would probably be more comfortable risking davis over bynes but that's probably the only minor quibble

especially as Means is the type of guy you don't particularly want to be playing significant snaps for you - if he is then something's gone wrong

I went Bynes solely because he's got the most tenure and respect there (assuming TJ and Urban to the PS), so figured he's in a way the least risky. If they do want Urban on the 53, I think he could be the guy but it's minor regardless.

And then Means is just a maybe we'll bring you back but we'll also be on the lookout for something better type of guy so not even sure a real handshake is needed in a roundabout way. If he wants to play this year, the Ravens are his best bet.

absolutely a lot of the great play was in the 4th quarter, but his physicality, even with his stature, doesn't matter whether its the 1st quarter or the 4th quarter. He seems to be a smart player

I can't get behind Urban not being in the 53

it's potentially a handshake to stop mack from having to go through waivers and then he sits on the PS and gets called up as required or he's one of the guys who rejoins the 53 after we send kolar and ojabo to I/R
