Signings, Cuts, Trades

I don't get the Roman disdain either, but I do wonder if there comes a point where we just need a new voice. Think he's done some really good things (especially at points this year) but at some point if it's not clicking, why keep doing the same thing over and over? Think we're still a ways away from that being a legitimate thought, but can't keep falling short like we have and just maintaining the status quo.

This! Like yeah he does some good things for a few series then stalls out and fails to adjust. After half time it seems the other team adjust to his game plan but he doesn't adjust himself.
The failure to run even once while in the 5 yard line is on him .

I don't necessarily agree with this. Think he's made plenty of adjustments, especially this year. Don't mistake failure to execute for failure to adapt. With that being said, I'm okay with some of the "hatred" for lack of a better word. I think there are certainly things people can complain about, and I think situational play calling has been lacking. But when/if we do move on, I don't think it's necessarily 100% performance related is what I'm getting at. Moving on to me would more signal an opportunity to get a different voice in the building and see if you can unlock Lamar being a lot more consistent.

i do understand this kind of thinking for sure - that sometimes it's worthwhile just to freshen up the ideas and philosophy (not completely dissimilar to what happened this offseason with replacing wink)

but i agree that we're not at that kind of point yet - still feels like roman has the answers and when we've faltered it's been down to players not executing

I know injuries will ultimately play into this, but we could be needing up to 5 roster spots in the coming weeks. We currently have 2 open. Edwards, Bowser, Ojabo, and Kolar are all less than 3 weeks away at this point, and it would probably be wise to assume that DJack will be on the 53 sometime soon as well. Could also need a guy like Ar'Darius eventually too.

Looking at the most volatile players...

Mike Davis - Edwards would replace him easily
Nick Boyle - can't have 5 TEs and a FB on the roster and he's clearly TE4 right now
Demarcus Robinson - I'd put this one more on the unlikely side but he hasn't done enough to secure a spot either
AJ Klein - still don't understand this one in the first place, Harrison could move back to ILB to provide cover here

ive seen this come up a lot

a lot of this actually falls on lamar checking out of running plays - and you cant really criticise lamar for that either because he got us into good plays and we again just mis-executed in a few small ways that made major differences in points (the miss to Duvernay, the mis-ID that could have been a Likely TD, the Andrews drop)

Davis seems obvious
Boyle i think they'll try everything they can not to get rid of him because of the present and future cap implications... but ultimately if they need the roster spot they need the roster spot
Robinson feels up in the air but he's clearly been thought of as WR3 until now and does have some backup return value in an emergency - think proche makes more sense as someone who even with bateman out and a dearth at the position couldnt factor at WR and isnt a notable special teamer
Klein i didnt understand either and makes a ton of sense

we obviously have jackson and maybe ardarius like you talked about that we may have to think about but right now the only guys we need to 100% find roster spots for are the guys coming off I/R and PUP because if we don't activate them then they're done for the year

Edwards figures to be one of the first guys back and has the easiest straight swap to get onto the 53 with Davis

I think Proche might be in some trouble as well. My line of thinking for Robinson is that he's only here for 1 year. If he's already providing middling results, what's really the point? DeSean takes over the deep threat role and I'd find it hard to believe that Proche or Wallace couldn't do similarly in the chain mover type of role with the same amount of opportunities.

Boyle is just such a tough one. I don't think they want to but if it comes down to it, you gotta do what you gotta do. Felt like Oliver was just a placeholder but can't imagine they move on from him with how much run he's gotten here recently.

and notably it feels like Oliver's taken a huge step the last 2-3 weeks and has become an important part of the offence which feels wild to say after how his run blocking was the first 2-3 weeks of the season where he was a big reason why the running game wasnt working

he's now a big reason why it is working

This is just truly crazy. I think this also bodes well for Likelys long term development.

I don't think they can touch Boyle. They effectively guaranteed most of his comp for this year. There's basically no cap savings to be had by cutting him, and there's a lot to be had next year. Maybe they're secretly holding out hope that later in the year he'll be able to play more snaps as a blocker, but not looking likely.

Good teams look to improve anyway they can. Meanwhile, we continue to bargain shop.

Just don’t see how he lasts if Kolar does end up returning though. Don’t think it’s the ideal scenario but something has to give there at some point.

Not sure if it should be exciting to potentially sign Odell Beckham knowing he tore his ACL twice in such a short span of time.

I’ll take that gamble over signing a 36 year old desean Jackson and hoping he’s productive.

Except OBJ will not come here. I can almost be sure the Ravens would have to pay double to convince him to do so and the Ravens do not have cap space to pay double.

I mean, double what? Like $2-3M? Nobody's going to pay him like $10M for half a season. Dude's going to make like $3M this year, tops, with incentives.
Ravens can easily afford that if they want to.

But is it really hope though? Don't mind me with the meme, my sense of humor is something else but I always wanted to find a good time use this
