Signings, Cuts, Trades

I mean yea I fucking love Roquan but our poor offense

No matter what position we added it was always gonna be: does it or does it not move the needle?

Roquan smith moves the mf needle.
Look for Patrick queen to play out this year and get traded on day 2 of the draft while roquan gets the contract.

I lowkey feel bad for Lamar. But Baltimore a defensive town lol.

We'll pick in late 20s / 30s next year. I give that first plus more for DJ Moore any day of the week.
Cool. DJ Moore doesn't appear to be available via trade, though. I don't think the Panthers would trade him for that price, considering he's a foundational piece of that team.
Also Smith will be considerably cheaper in terms of price tag than Moore will be next year or in future years.

We don’t know if he was available though. If we could’ve given a 1/3 for Moore, cool, but if the panthers say no then wtf can we do? Doubt they’d take even that offer and I’m not offering much more than that.

The reason we can trade for a roquan smith is his positional value makes his trade comp WAY less. Roquan smith is a top 3 LB in the league, dj moore probably sits somewhere between 10-15 and that’s very generous and he would cost way more

I think this will be another one of EDCs collosal failures, especially at that price for a rental doing no better than Queen this year. But what do I know
I dont think it will be a failure for a couple reasons. We need a mlb. Queen is up soon, Harrison up soon and Bynes is 50 in football years. For this year, Queen and Smith are both good blitzers and Roquan is better in coverage. Can mix up more who we send and who drops. I'm not mad at the move but like I said before the season started this trade doesn't really do much for me personally. Would have preferred a piece on offense but it is what it is.

This move tells me something is going on behind the scenes. We have a pick in the event Smith walks but no way that’s the play.

2 things. They must have something in place with Lamar to set up signing Smith

Ehh, I'm fine with it. This was always how it was going to be anyway.
When the franchise QB wants $50M a year, the most he can ask for is a good defense and a solid Oline. I think Lamar now has both.
Very true but TBD on how good this defense actually is. Don't think we'll have any idea until the end of November.

If it’s not a wr we trade for, is there any other offensive position we would trade for? Doesn’t seem like it. Wrs aren’t really on the trade block like that and if they are you’re gonna get gouged or get into a bidding war.

For Instance, give me this trade over the chiefs trade for toney ALL FUCKING DAY because one is a bonafide elite talent and the other may or may not be in the nfl 3 years from now

Oh FFS, why don't you let me dream, at least? Can a man have a dream around here?

I wonder how much of RS remaining salary, Chicago is paying.

Ehh, not necessarily. I really don't know where to slot Smith in for price tag in terms of AAV, but I'd guess its in the $15M/year range. Could be higher, but just not sure, because ILB has a wide range in terms of comp right now.

At that price point, his year 1 cap hit will be less than $10M, so he's affordable. It COULD, potentially, mean extending Peters is out of the question, though. Or they have plans in place to make more roster cuts than we think, which I think is possible. I think a guys like Morgan Moses is becoming expendable next year, and there's decent cap savings there too.
