2025 Baltimore Orioles

The only trade that's been good so far is the Burnes trade. Trading with the Phillies for guys they couldn't wait to get rid of for an injured Hayes just seems like we got what we deserved. If all of the acquisitions were performing where they "hoped" they would - at basically their best year level - we'd be undefeated still. Yet, alas... we are Meh-Supreme. And with a TON of young talent out of the pipeline.

It's 100% on management/ownership. They didn't spend on pitching and the prospects are getting frustrated because they can see no extentions are coming either. Money doesn't fix every mess in life but it would fix this. hand out an extension or two and see how these boys get their spirits up.

Boy, this is hard to watch each day. I'm trying my best, but these games remind me of the sad years in the 2000's when it seemed like we had a team of office workers carrying their briefcase to their cubicle, working for a while, and punching out and repeating the next day. This is just completely un-fun to watch.

Well, you could see it coming and Hyde is gone. Hard to believe there was such a
U turn after the last couple of years.

This team completely sucks major ass. Elias should be gone for arranging this team too.
Well, it is still May. A bit early to jump off the cliff. lol Maybe the change will fire things up along with getting some guys healthy.

I think Elias makes it thru the season. But for him to survive next year, this has to get straightened out. I think he has been pretty good at building the infrastructure, but I'm not sold at all that he sees FA as anything but bargain basement shopping with high upside when the one FA he really wants he doesn't get... Burnes. But also, giving him a little leeway here, the pitching injuries and recovery from them are a mess and impossible to control.

IDK, I don't think we ever had a chance at Burnes. Not just the $, seems he wanted to be near his family.

The pitching staff injuries the last 3 years have been crazy. And losing key pieces in Westy, Cowser, and O'Neil hasn't helped. Add in Adley and Mounty being all but auto outs and I have to give Elias little or no blame here and can't see any thoughts of replacing him.

Little to no blame when he barely made an effort to acquire pitching this offseason? He didn't make any competitive offers to the top starters. Or give Burnes the extra years he wanted. O'Neill was his biggest FA signing and he can't hit or stay healthy

Exactly, after Burnes signed with Arizona, it's like we had no alternate path. The FA signings have been terrible and the trades we've made for young players have not had good returns. Elias has shown he can draft well and build a system, but using the pieces that might not have a place to acquire new talent that will has only been successful with the Burnes trade. The FA signings this year were a joke.

So how was he to know that none of Rodriguez, Wells or Bradish, wouldn't be available? Or that Eflin would go down? Or that Kremer and Povic would struggle? And Burnes was never signing long term here, he wanted to be closer to his family while finishing out his career.

The pitching staff issues are compounded by an anemic offense with most not named O'Hearn, Laureano or Mullins dealing with extended slumps. And losing Cowser and Westy has really hurt. I get the frustration with pitching, but you have to score runs to win games(25th in runs scored). Can't put that on Elias.

He knew that Wells and Bradish wouldn't be available at the start of the season after they had their procedures done. An extra starter was needed even if Grayson and Eflin were available. Kremer has always been inconsistent and Povich had a 5.20 era last year. Burnes has said that Elias didn't offer enough years for the money to be right.

Cowser and Westburg have been inconsistent as hitters. The entire offense has struggled since the middle of last year, so either the players aren't as good as we think they are, or the coaching/analytics combo isn't helping them make the right adjustments. Interesting to note that Holliday started hitting after his dad noticed some issues with his swing.

I don't necessarily think Elias should or will be fired, but he has to be on thin ice after the terrible offseason he had.

The lack of backup plan for Burnes really soured me on Elias. I wanted to believe that he knew what he was doing with Morton and Gibson but that clearly backfired.

Well there's Sugano who would have a much better record with any kind of run support.

I get what you guys are saying, but Elias and the team have been dealing with some terrible injury luck that amplifies any mistakes. Brandon kinda lost the team last season as you mentioned, I really think most of the blame lies with him and his staff. We have to find better.

Corbin Burnes chose to sign with the Arizona Diamondbacks primarily because he and his family reside in the Phoenix area and wanted to be closer to home. He and his wife had twins in June, further solidifying their preference for staying in Arizona. While other teams offered more money, the Diamondbacks' location and the opportunity to pitch closer to home were the major factors in his decision.

The Arizona Diamondbacks were not heavily linked to Corbin Burnes during the free agency period, and the deal with him was finalized on December 30, 2024, according to ESPN. While Burnes had expressed a preference for the West Coast, the D-backs were not widely considered a top contender for his services, and the deal was finalized in a somewhat surprising move, according to ESPN.

If you want an actual quote, then here he is when the O's played the DBacks. To me this says he was open to returning, but he wasn't given the best offer. Maybe he still chooses Arizona, but not upping the number of years for our ace is a failure when we're trying to win a WS.
I just don’t think that we necessarily matched up on the years that it was going to take to kind of get to a dollar amount for me to stay there,” Burnes said of the O’s offer prior to Tuesday’s Orioles-Diamondbacks game at Chase Field. “Now, I can’t guarantee I would’ve gone there had this offer not come around. Just kind of one of those things like the way it was lined up, us living here. If these guys [the D-backs] were going to be serious and have a fair offer, then this is where we were going to be. So it’s tough to play the what-if game.

But yeah, I mean, [the Orioles] were definitely interested. But this was by far, I think, the best offer that we had

Hyde used analytics and information from Elias and Sig. Poor roster construction is 100% on him.

lol...Shouldn't have included AI, it just came up at the top of the search..

Did you watch the interview? After their twins were born in June Dbacks were always going to be his first choice if they showed interest. And if not, it would have been another team in the west. Once the Arizona offer was in place there really was no need for any counter offers upping the years. While he's being polite in conversation, he was not returning to Bmore, even with a longer term.

I mean, he's going to say that now that he's signed. I'm just saying it wasn't 100% that he was gone, and Elias either should have tried harder or made offers to one of the other top starters if he had known Burnes was determined to be closer to Arizona.
