This is a topic deviation but the Rooney Rule should start at the assistants and positional coaching staff. That’s where the change will really happen and not at coordinator.rules like that aren't mandating that guys get hired
but it does force teams to either confront the lack of diversity within their staff/hiring options or to open up their network beyond easy nepotism and actually find people to interview who are able and qualified
it's about access - historically minorities don't get access to the old boy's club and so they never have a chance at promotion - now franchises at least forced to interview voices outside the circle
I think he was the clear best offensive mind available. And the fact that he didn't get a job (yes, I know he removed himself from a couple of opportunities) says a lot to me about how the league feels about his leadership in a HC role. That’s been the word on the street for a while now. I think they highlighted that in a Hard Knocks episode or something. That reason you gave (players running the show) is exactly what made me cautious about McDaniel. He may get positive feedback from players because the players are running the show so of course it’s great to them. He doesn’t strike me as a guy who can really takeover the team. That one video of him getting mad after the one loss that would be “the greatest thing that ever happened to us because we say it is” encapsulates it for me
I think I like the Weaver hire. He brings an old school element to the team and adds some check and balances. And maybe he gets us 2 3rd round comp picks. He’s been a HC candidate multiple times now so his time should be coming. I think he would be great at helping Minter with experience and setting things up on the day to day too
I know Argentina Raven may not like this part, but this can also turn into 2 3rd round picks pretty easily. I like the move, but I am surprised he hasn’t brought anyone over from LAC. Unless it’s just not reported yet.

I think your opinion is horrendously wrong and is a very off base.Because I consider it more "racist," it doesn't give them a real opportunity.
It's just a bit of bureaucracy, doing two interviews out of obligation with anyone, as long as they're from a minority group, and that's it, without any real chance of getting the job, no matter how well-prepared they are.
I think this is the basis of Brian Flores's lawsuit.
Any rule to promote a minority is racist per se; you don't hire them for their ability, but for their color or race.
But anyway, it's just a personal opinion

Weaver is a perfect fit in this role and we’re fortunate to have him back.the benefit that you get from weaver - the skillset that he has over a guy like Leonhard - is the leadership and maturity - the kinds of skills and characteristics that got him various HC interviews
i was not excited about Weaver as an HC because of his lack of schematic success and acumen but there's no doubting his strength as a communicator and positional teacher
100% Agreeded we needed an older guy and vet at one of these open positions, assumed it was going to be assistant head coach or dc. Was kinda hoping it'd be an older guy like chuck p or something, but weaver does know the culture super well.
I just hope we have good game management
You mean I'm not getting rich from working at a billion dollar corporation? But I was assured my hard work was going to pay off?i agree that whatever initiatives are put in place have to start from the bottom and work up rather than at the top to work down
trickle down effects rarely actually work
I agree Leonard would have been the better option, but we couldn't get him since he can call plays in Buffalo. That being said, Weaver is a very good add for the staff and provides value for the organization and as you said, he's a great leader and respected by the players. He's not going to be calling plays and I don't have issue with him helping Minter install game plans.I think Weaver is the best choice since we couldn't get Leonhard. It's still Minter's defense, and now you just added a great leader to a young staff.
Apparently we were interested in Chris O'Leary (if the Chargers hadn't nabbed him themselves)
Surprised Steve Clinkscale wasn't an option for DC but also he's a DB coach and we've already hired Mickens
some thought minter might be interested in marcus brady the QB coach and pgc for the chargers too
but yeah not many guys being picked off that LAC staff in general
