Maybe. That also implies that the new regime will have the same impact on roster construction as John did. I don't think in the short term that'll happen. There's a shared vision for sure, but I'm not buying that Minter walks in and starts telling EDC all the things he hates about the players he...

Corner is a bigger need than the Oline. That only changes if Linderbaum isn't here. 80% of your starting Oline for next year is on the roster already. They need a Guard and some depth, and they already like some of the depth. If Marlon is cut, Corner is the weakest position on the entire team...

He's high floor, lower-than elite ceiling. Everybody has known this for at least a decade.

I think the fanbase dramatically over-exaggerates this idea of "veteran player leadership running the team".

I agree. I'm just saying his retirement wouldn't shock anybody. He's been pondering it like every offseason for a couple years now. Plenty of guys retire when they're still "good enough to play".

I mean, while he's still a good player, Lane Johnson turns 36 in May. That guy has been on retirement watch for like 2-3 years now. Dickerson would be surprising based on age, but Oline notoriously have surgeries damn near every year and he's torn both ACL's

Only surprised it took that long. Monken basically said he didn't want him back.

So for me, couple obvious problems: 1. We literally can't afford his contract until Lamar signs an extension. And I think even with that you'd probably need to make some cuts to keep him. His contract isn't super prohibitive, but he's owed a fully gtd $30M next year, his $29M salary in 2027...

I don't think you'll see competition until you get later into training camp. Kicker isn't one of those things where it takes months to figure out who the guy is. If he sucks in the preseason, you can bring in somebody else quickly and they'll be kicking the following week.

I agree. The reality is that most of your NFL QBs now have mobility, even if it's at the Herbert/Maye level. He is a high floor, low ceiling OC. Those kinds of guys work in the NFL for decades. High floor, low ceiling describes the overwhelming majority of NFL Owners and Front Offices.

Depends on the coach. People like to shit on Greg Roman, but his offenses are almost universally good everywhere he goes. They were good in SF, they were good in BUF, they were good in BAL and they were good in LA. Were they great? No, nor were they special. His brand of football doesn't suit...

Not really that impressive at all. Every single team in this league has at least two RBs on their roster that we get 1,000 yards if they got 250+ carries a year. Those guys are widely available on day 3 of literally every NFL draft.

I guess my question is... get a shot at what? The pathway to being an OC in this league pretty much goes through coaching and developing QBs at some level. There's just not many restrictions at other coaching positions.

I mean the barrier is effectively black QBs. That's the barrier. There's really no bottlenecks at other coaching groupings.

I'd say its more to do with the fact that the people making these types of hiring decisions don't care enough about the "optics" of whether the public agrees with the decision or not to give credence to something they feel they don't need. If they don't believe the rule is valuable or provides...

If you feel like it. It's the offseason kids. Better get used to nothing happening for weeks at a time. The next round of info that'll be meaningful is a good month or so away.

I mean I get the sentiment, but this is pretty disingenuous. Harbs had an OC long before most of these teams had HCs. He just got offered a promotion. That would be a positive for a coach like Harbaugh, not a negative. Apparently he did good enough work at his last job that somebody else wanted...

Nobody is basing the position on skin color. They're basing an interview as such. An interview is merely that... an interview. And yes, the Rooney Rule, without question, has led to people getting interviewed for jobs they otherwise wouldn't get an interview for because of skin color. In some...
