Welcome to Baltimore: Malaki Starks

In what is maybe one of the most predictable picks ever...

The Ravens add a safety that allows Kyle Hamilton to play close to the line of scrimmage again.

Starks has the ability to get deep fast. He's gonna be great for disguising coverage with him down in the box, and forcing teams to guess where he'll go after the snap.

Absolutely love the Starks selection. I would've been been happy with multiple others. Nick Emmanwori, Donovan Ezeiruaku, Josh Conerly Jr., Josh Simmons, Luther Burden III, Trey Amos, Benjamin Morrison. But Starks was somebody I personally highlighted as an impact player early on in the process, and I'm glad to see him here. At just 21, he could be a mainstay for us throughout the rest of the decade.

Starks feels like the type of guy that is going to benefit greatly from NFL film study, now knowing how impressive he was in interviews. The IQ is apparent in the tape but the discipline was lacking a little too often. Some NFL coaching, especially from a guy like Pagano, should help him get rid of some of those mistakes.

If starks really pans out, then we do have a seriously impressive secondary.

If starks and tj Tampa can both be big contributors this season, then we are looking at a real no fly zone, and Hamilton/humphrey add a dynamic that other “no fly zone” secondaries of the past don’t really have, and if a tandem of Tampa and Wiggins allow those guys to play freely and allow the DC to use them freely, then we’re looking at a serious unit.

This secondary has the potential to blow Legion of Boom outta the water. Unprovens gotta prove first but holy shit the tools are there.

This isn’t including ardarius Washington whose role we don’t even know yet, but we know he’s a multi position player and has a knack for playmaking.

A lot of guys are going to get the opportunity to play all over, but this is a real big boon for Kyle and Marlon. They're good in their own right, but they make a lot more plays closer to the LOS and Starks lets you move those guys around. I don't know if we see the benefits right off of the bat until they gel, but deploying Starks back there should result in more turnovers from both him and the guys he lets play where they play best.

He's extremely impressive in this presser. Very thoughtful. Well spoken. Intelligence shines. Humble but hungry.
