Probably. In theory, players should develop if they're staying in school for 5-6 years. But so many of the dudes that do that are switching schools every year or two and it's hard to develop that way. You'll always have your 5 star recruits that live up to the expectations off of the jump and leave school early, but those on the periphery are staying - helping in the short term but hurting in the long term.

With that being said, 2027 looks like the culmination of all of those decisions into a stellar class. We'll see if that holds.

Thats a tough one. As far as tape, i think tyson got better tape only cause tate just look like a med-deep threat type of guy. However, he does look fluid enough to able to do everything. He looks like a taller version of scary terry to me.. tyson looks insane though like a real threat from day 1…

for me he's safety 2 in this class and i've got a 1st round grade on him which would put him top 16 on my board right now

really?
for me Tate has two real weaknesses to his game based on the film:

1) not a lot of wins in the middle of the field, mostly a vertical threat - the way he runs those routes is awesome - fluid, precise, snaps off routes at the breakpoint but not a ton of intermediate stuff and not a ton of stuff working over the middle

2) not dynamic with the ball in his hands - not a YAC threat really at all

his value and grading is probably majorly affected by the team that's grading him - think the Eagles (for example) would probably have him as clearly the WR1, but i don't think that's true of the ravens

i think he's an elite deep threat prospect but to me tyson is the far more complete WR prospect

I haven’t watched a whole lot of Tyson tbh and have watched much more of Tate. I do like Tate a lot, and frankly don’t have a WR1 2 or 3, I’d gladly take any of the 3 at 14.

Tate certainly is pretty strictly a vertical threat on film, but is that his only skill set or is that where OSU felt they got the most value out of him? It would be a projection to hope he can be the same caliber of WR at other levels of the field, but here’s something to consider…

Lamar doesn’t typically like to throw fades, because typically he likes throwing higher percentage throws to open receivers, where Tate may be different is that he isn’t just a jump ball guy, he separates downfield. He’s elite at winning space vertically, his routes are very intentional in creating space for the qb to throw a higher percentage ball in an otherwise low percentage situation. Also, Lamar might not like to throw fades but he LOVES a deep post and a deep over, Carnell Tate is an absolute monster on the deep post, and you would think that would translate to a deep over as well if given the play call for it.

So maybe, if you want to round out Lamar’s ability to attack anywhere on the field, a guy who makes these typically low percentage throws easier on him by giving him larger windows through separation, would be the answer.
 
Really been enjoying the discourse between Ravens fans regarding Vega Ioane. Seems to divide opinion a bit in terms of value.

I personally wouldn't be taking him at 14, but I wouldn't be completely mad if we did because he is a rock in pass pro.

Yeah I don't love what I've seen (might need to give him a second chance) but every OL expert on twitter seems to absolutely love him and that makes it easier to swallow for me.
If you told me right now he'll be Tyler Booker next year I'm pickung him at 14 no questions asked.

To me this is more of a scheme thing than anything else.
If you asked Tate to run a million Digs I'm convinced he'll do it at a very high level. If you ask Tyson to separate on a deep route he absolutely can't.
If Tate can separate on the most basic routes he won't have trouble killing guys on man beaters.
The next questions is Does he have the toughness to take the beating, but then again Tyson has been beat up so his own resistance has to be a question mark as well.
I'm cool on Tyson if he's the pick at 14 but he's pretty clearly the 3rd best in the class imo.

Yep it is tough because you have to take in to account we have Dwayne Ledford now, and that guy will improve players no doubt.

I just think if there is a world where 1 of McCoy, Delane, Tyson, Lemon, Tate is there, they are the pick.

Then you have the wildcards. Caleb Banks does interest me, his tape is a rollercoaster but there is a lot of upside there.
