The Forty, the Fumble, and the Fucking Déjà Vu

So, here's some food for thought.

The Ravens blitzed about 26% of the passing snaps in the fourth quarter (highest of any quarter against the Bills) and rushed over 50% of the offensive snaps, according to PFF.

Generally speaking, fans of teams bemoan defenses getting conservative and offenses not burning the clock (this is something that I loathed from the Falcons in their Super Bowl against the Patriots. I thought if they had simply run the ball, burned the clock, and kicked the field goal, they'd have won the Super Bowl.) The Ravens actually got more aggressive than they had been and tried to milk the clock offensively.

If the Ravens had actually blitzed less and relied on four man rushes and played more aggressively offensively, failing to complete passes, would we bemoan that, too? Or would we have been okay with the loss because they tried something different?
I think if nothing else it really shows the hypocrisy of the fanbase when the team did precisely what they've asked for all along. Get up big, give the ball to Henry over and over again, grind down the clock.

In my lifetime, I will never see a fanbase who is more adamant that our best chance to win is to take the ball out of a $50M QBs hands more than this one. In the future, there will be case studies done on "what the fuck are you talking about" when it comes to how the public whiffs so badly on what wins and loses games.

allen doesn't give those pass rushers a chance
he's got a good enough OL that pass rush just has no chance even with wins because the ball's out so quick and on time
We had a clear gameplan to not attack Allen but contain. Rushers got to Allen’s depth and backed off, squared up, and prepared to play either side of the blocker, basically all night.

Matter of fact the only one I saw actually bending the edge was Mike green, literally every other edge was slow playing it.

Tavius Robinson looked to offer nothing as a pass rusher, and KVN looked absolutely done, he was running in sand out there.

Also fun fact: John Harbaugh was the second lowest win% all time among current coaches when he has an 80%+ chance win probability, only behind Andy Reid. If you isolated that to just Reid's KC tenure, I'm very willing to bet Harbaugh is undisputed number 1.

im pretty sure it was kyle shanahan not andy reid who was number 1 in this stat

pretty sure green lost contain on one of his better rushes lol

I feel like I've gotten pretty good at evaluating ST units, so here are my thoughts on game 1...

High quality:
Hummel, Kane, Wallace, Buchanan (already)

Showing signs:
Higgins, Martin, Walker, Ali

Lack discipline and patience:
Simpson, Tampa

Probably shouldn't take a ST snap again:
Green

Other quality guys that will seemingly take reps but they'll be limited based on role:
Kolar, Robinson

So we're not far from a good unit, but we need guys at the lower rungs to graduate to the one above them fast for the whole thing to come together. That's why I see them prioritizing a guy like JT Gray sooner rather than later.
This made me laugh. Why was he so bad?

Also I'm wondering regarding Higgins, maybe we loaded up at LB because we're concerned about that position and see it as the weakest on the field. Could also be thinking long-term even with Roquan. This is second year and so far, he is not looking good and continuing what we saw last year.

He just looks like a pass rusher out there. See ball and get ball. Which is great for a pass rusher, but on ST where discipline and patience are key… he didn’t have it. Maybe he’ll get better but I’d just end that experiment now. There are better options.

Media = fans. The difference is one gets paid to know very little, and the other doesn't.

The point is that public pressure doesn't mean anything until the public acts on it. People have the balls to bitch about whatever they want. What they don't have the balls to do is turn off the TV. That's why public backlash doesn't mean anything.
everyone knows public pressure and complaining means nothing in these situations, however theyre still gonna do it. Nothing you nor i can do about anyone complaining about wanting harbaugh fired.in all honesty fans have the right to complain about a team theyre supporting

They will write stories about how the Ravens wasted Lamar Jackson's career
i think we will pull it together. Its only sucks because we have a tough schedule and bills have an easy one so theyre now likely to be first seed over us if it came down to it. I wouldnt even be worried about the bills if we played them in playoffs. Alot had to happen for them to win that game and chances are that it would not happen again..

You're really not gonna be worried playing them again? They beat us in the playoffs 6 months ago and Allen didn't even have to take it out of 2nd gear. No matter how you slice it, they have beaten us in back to back games. We have a much more talented team and we still lost. The Bills are a team you should absolutely worry about, probably the only team in the AFC right now.

I said in this offseason that either we show the mental stuff is out of our way this season or it will take a regime change. Took only one week to know it's not different. There's just no reason for me to believe we pull it together

Is there video of Harbaugh describing the Hamilton play? Interested in the context and if he was joking or serious

Chiefs have our number too. I don’t want to see either in the playoffs

I don’t know. “Easy” and “tough” are only relative to expectations and last year results. On paper it looks like it but it’s hard to say how those teams really are until EoY.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if their divisional opponents stole some wins. Jets specifically could do it. Vrabel is now running the show in NE and he could also beat them as well, depending. We will see what happens
