The Wiggins, the Offense, and the WIN!!!

Off topic, but man Steelers have the most hideous uniform combination in the NFL. What the heck is that design on the jersey.

Steelers and Packers have possibly the worst deep throwbacks in the league. I get that it's an homage to the true classics, but they need to be history.

Literally just finished watching the game as I'm out of state due to my cousin turning 10 today.

First 2 drives, I was moments away from clicking off the game. Glad I stuck through it. I think this was Huntley's best performance since the Packers game in 2021 that came down to the wire. My biggest gripe with Monken is his insistency on running on 1st down with Henry. Like, it won't hurt you to be less predictable, Todd, I pinky promise you.

Shout out to Wiggins man. One of the best CBs from a passer rating perspective who came away with a game changing INT. I absolutely love the fact that towards the end of the game, we had Caleb dead to rights and that bullshit catch happens to set 1st and goal. Bullfuckingshit dawg. But hey, defense stood strong at the end.

Fuck that, he was still dogshit frequently today and is still doing shit that you can’t reasonably explain.

I can’t stand the personnel groupings and play calling when we get inside the 20.
I didn't see who posted this, but as I read, I immediately knew it had to be Joey.

Not quite a boomer, but OK, I'm good with it. lol

Nothing against video games, but if you're honest with yourself you'd agree sitting around on your ass isn't really a good way to get sharp for a football game.

And ping pong is a great game! Good way to sharpen eye hand coordination and reflexes.
I'm going to have to assume you have never played more than Pong if you don't think video games involve significant reflexes and hand-eye coordination.

I'm with Simba when he previously said these guys work incredibly hard day in and day out. At the end of the day, football isn't all they do every single day for 24 hours a day; they take breaks. And even without the option in the locker room, I guarantee a good bit of them are playing video games at home. Just cooler to do it in the locker room with your teammates and build that camaraderie.

I only have two major thoughts here.

1. We saw it with Rush and now with Huntley, but Monken was calling plays that asked the ball to be out after one read. Just drop back and rip it without thinking.

I understand Lamar provides play extension and a deep ball viability that these two do not, but why not incorporate that a bit more to start the game to build a rhythm?

2. I'm still not 100% feeling Orr. I thought the Rams shot themselves in the foot too much and that the weather played a significant factor. Similarly, I think Williams holds onto the ball too long and that opens up a pass rush.

However, with that said, the defense actually looked like it had life today. The Ravens are going to be playing a lot of bad offenses going forward, including Thursday, so maybe all the Ravens need at this point is confidence and to stack good performances, no matter how bad the opposing offense.

I do worry about the defense against an Allen or a Mahomes, but I truly think had the Ravens opened with the Bears-Browns, then the Bills, they'd be 3-0 because I think they'd have been a lot more confident.

wiggins came into the game as number 1 in the NFL in passer rating allowed i'm pretty sure
i imagine that's only improved with another INT

Lmao I don’t think I’m wrong though in this. That one series inside the 20 where Huntley rolls left and misses Bateman, yeah if Huntley makes that difficult throw it’s a td, it was improvised and rolling left throwing back across your body is one of the hardest things a qb can do, so don’t count on that.

The fact that we ran Henry on first down, and took him off the field for 2nd and 3rd down, never once had Hopkins and likely on the field, and split justice hill out wide with an empty backfield on 2nd down, like how do you explain this decision?

With Huntley on the field you gotta make em think you’re gonna run on every play you possibly can. Empty backfield on 2nd down is just dumb. Our best red zone threats are Henry, Hopkins, and Likely, and we totally removed them from the equation in a key redzone possession, we do it often.

Real talk though, I was surprised to see Huntley perform so well. There was a lot more downfield action than I expected. Those deep balls still have no pace on them, but if guys are consistently as wide open as they were on those attempts, the risk is mitigated. But he was efficient in moving the ball down the field. He probably works here so much better than anywhere else in the league. I still don't think he's great but he's also probably more valuable than I've alluded to previously. I'm not sure I trust him going up against the big dogs, but he always keeps us in games and I feel like that's all you really need out of a backup. I think I'm reupping with him until I find something better vs. moving on in hopes of finding something better.

I'd put the red zone troubles down to the O line more than Monken. He has been bad but he's up against it in short yardage when we can't get any push at all and can't pass protect. It was good to see Henry run it in but the O line was getting run backwards and most teams would have done better against the bounce outside. They had a few D line injuries too, so it was backups dominating our line.

Don't know why I'm being so gloomy, it was nice to win.
Makes sense though. The running game, especially with Henry, is most effective between the 20s. It's not nearly as effective when the D is compressed. Been saying that for a while now. Really hard to run the ball inside the 10-15 yard line when you're Oline isn't excellent at run blocking. There's no real element of surprise. All defenders are basically at near or the LOS.

It's hard to gauge how much of that is a function of the opponent. Bears already aren't a good D, and they were missing like their 3 best corners. If there's ever a game to take shots down field, it's this one.

Miami's D is not much better, so if he starts again, I'd have some confidence. But I see a lot of people suggesting we'd beat HOU (fuck no) or LAR with Huntley in there, and I'm not seeing it. Much better defenses with much healthier rosters that wouldn't have allowed some of the things the Bears did.

But Huntley definitely exceeded expectations in this game.

Regardless, for me, it's all about the D. If we had lost 16-13, I'd probably be fine with it too. The offense will get back to form once Lamar is back in there, and scoring will be more regular. I largely care about what the D does, because the D being average or better puts us in a position to make a run. If the D continues to suck, its game over regardless of who the QB is. Hole is too deep.

After the first drive, thought the D was very good.

Pong was (and still is) one of my favorite PS1 games of all-time. That game was so damn fun and frustrating at the same time.

As for Orr, leading up to the Bears TD, it felt like the blitz was getting a little bit predictable and not disguised well. If we don't get a pass-rusher or some sort of reinforcement(s) up front, I'm gonna assume because nothing was really available or we got outbid again because ain't no way boi. I'm not worried about this defense against either of those QBs because: 1) still have my doubts about us making the playoffs and 2) if we did, they'll (this defense) get slapped around again if we make the playoffs.

Yeah I don't disagree, and I don't think this makes him some high-end backup in the league by any means. But he's effective, efficient, and able to move the ball down the field. Yeah maybe he drops a game to KC if he has to play them, but if I'm staring at Lamar missing 2-4 weeks or so and I have some middle of the pack teams coming up in that time period, I at least feel confident that Huntley is going to make it a game if he's at the helm. He's going to make mistakes and it's not always as good as this, but it's rarely as bad as what we got from Rush at the same time.

Huntleys worst game as a raven was better than anything we saw from Rush as a raven.

I think we should start spreading out more once we get inside the 20! Seems like everything else looks all the same
