The Stout, the Defense, and the Offence

We’re on to Cincinnati

In all seriousness, the offense is a huge concern atm. It’s everything and not just Lamar or the OL honestly. The only real good on offense is Zay Flowers.

I’m not sure how to fix this thing. It just looks dysfunctional.

we really need bateman back i think
he's the only really dynamic receiving weapon we have outside of zay and we especially miss him in the redzone

I think the Ravens can beat them but it is a weird matchup. I think the Ravens beat them in the playoffs so I certainly think they can beat them in the regular season.

I just see the most likely playoff seeding and it basically gives the Pats a pretty easy path to conference championship game. Pats as 1 seed, then Broncos/Colts as 2/3 seed (whichever order does not really matter) with Ravens as the 4 seed. Then you have Bills, Chargers, Jags, Texans, Steelers, and Chiefs fighting for 3 wild card spots.

Looking at schedule I think Bills have an inside track on 5 seed which means round 1 is Bills vs Ravens. Looking at the 6 wild card teams and other 2 division winners I don't expect Colts/Broncos to both win on wild card weekend and that means Pats get one of those wild card teams and that is a pretty easy path to AFC Championship game.

Basically the AFC is a bit weak this year with the usual contenders not looking as good as in the past. That opens things up to a team that looks like they have a top 5 QB (can the AFC stop getting all the good QBs) to make a deep playoff run.

The Colts might not win their division. 4 games versus Jags and Texans and Seahawks/niners sandwiched in between them. Jags 1 game back with much easier schedule.

Not making excuses for DF, but some of this stuff happens to everybody, just isn’t noticed. Dude’s every move is now under a microscope and is broadcast all over social media.

Pretty sure the analytics nerds are gonna praise him this week. Activating Jones appeared to light a fire up his arse. He was looking for people to hit.

I think he just lack awareness or something.. i see what he trying to do this play but he just seems so weird with everything he does
He gets tunnel vision on the dude he failed tho block, he should’ve switched over to the dude right in front of him and hoped someone else got in dudes way or the rb made him miss, instead he fucking plowed into his man and the rb

I think Likely’s fall off is also a really underrated loss, he was a very dangerous weapon the past 2 seasons, would make deep catches that seemed impossible, and was deadly on YAC and gave Lamar easy completions. Him and Lamar are clearly not themselves.

I think we can live without Bateman, it hurts not having him downfield but we also can’t even throw downfield this year because of pass pro. As the team is built this year, I think likely and zay are the 2 most important receiving threats because they turn short easy completions into first downs and big gains, and half of that equation is playing injured and not showing up the way he usually does.

I’ll say as frustrating as that game was it’s not like the Jets have been getting blown out all year, that was the 3rd biggest margin they lost by this year, so clearly they’re real good at dragging the other team down into the muck and making them win dirty

It only takes one quick huff of copium to realize they were probably a Faalale false start away from covering 13.5 pts.

i think that overrates how much likely's involved in the offence and how much bateman does for the spacing of the offence and how he himself creates space within the scheme

and also he's the kind of guy that if you need to get the ball out quick, can win on a quick slant

Not this play but some of the stuff he does, actually doesnt happen to everyone lol. Like ive seen some shit that even if someone tried to do it on purpose, it cant be replicated lol

Likely only seems to really put up numbers when Andrews is either out or does not put up numbers. Since Andrews has been in the game and getting targets, there simply are not any for Likely.

I am also not that worried about the Bateman loss as I think his contribution is not that impressive. Well over half the NFL has a better number 2 so the dropoff is not huge there. Just need Lamar to hopefully get healthy.

Relatedly no Tee Higgins and no Trey at least has me feeling better about Thursday even if Burrow plays.

I looked at their schedule before the game and had the same realization, also Tyrod played a great game and was way better than fields has been. They are a team who loses close because they make the fumble goaline mistakes constantly, not a bad in the Oakland kinda way where it's 2 star players (Crosby and Brock) - where if those 2 play the best game of the season they win, and anything else results in a 20 point blow out.

The jets are honestly a solid team that could turn around quickly with upgrades at certain spots and the right people

Unless Likely is hurt, not utilizing him more is a choice. He's got great hands and YAC ability but we somehow don't draw up more plays for him. We either trying to find Andrews for a drop or run the ball on first down for a loss.

Everyone sans Zay has been impacted by our lack of ability to run the ball. Zay is seemingly the only guy out there creating for himself currently. Not to say the other guys are bad players, but the whole offense is in a funk and guys like Likely are clearly feeling the ramifications.

guys have to get open
and we don't have guys who are getting open right now vs man coverage or in condensed zones

part of that is that teams don't respect the QB run threat right now so happy to play more man
part of that is that the field gets more condensed because we don't have guys threatening explosives on offence
everything gets tight, and only zay is consistently able to win in those situations right now - andrews a bit too... but this is why we do miss bate because he wins in those areas

likely's more of a danger on second phase plays and after the catch rather than in the initial phase of the route

I reckon we're missing Batemen badly
