Coaching Carousel 2026

This is why I'm not certain it matters which side of the ball we hire as HC. I just think we need to hire what we think is the best. I continue to err on OC as HC, because I think Kubiak - who's my final choice - as an OC as HC is the best decision. If they go with a DC as HC then McDaniel is ok in his capris as OC, but I'm skeptical. Kubiak and Weaver, I think are doable. That would be a good mix! But they have to be flexible and willing to change if what they do doesn't feel right after this year.
Well, there’s a benefit to the side of the ball. The primary piece we need is someone who can do the following:

1. Connect with and motivate players to inspire their best play on every play
2. Create continuity on offense and defense through an established identity
3. Ability to identify new talent in coaching to continuously improve both sides of the ball through innovation
4. Understanding of the players that best fit our installed system
5. Play calling ability and adjustments to create an effective game plan and adjust in game

So I would agree it doesn’t matter as long as they are strong as a coordinator and at the X and Os. With that said, an offensive coordinator could have a very effective vision for what kind of offense they want and would be able to keep the continuity even if they don’t call the plays because the system would be the system

I completely agree with the 5 points. But, like you say, if we can get that from an OC, that might have additional benefit. Plus, I feel like there are DC's that might not be as attractive as HC's when there are DC's interviewing that have already done it and might be more attractive than first timers... Hence let's get Kubiak and Weaver. That's just me. Stefanski and Weaver would have been a win for me too.

I don’t want Weaver as DC at all. I think he’ll make a good HC though

Stefanski already took the Falcons HC job

The benefit of a HC with an offensive coaching background is shown in results. Super Bowl winning teams have been coached by predominantly offensive coaching background HC for the past 20 years. Yes that includes the McVay, Reids and others. The data is there though and I think it’s about the continued success honestly.

Agreed. Hard pass on Weaver as DC, even HC for me.

Your last paragraph is why I want McDaniel or Kubiak, find a great defensive mind to run the defense and we’re a playoff team immediately.

My third option is Minter but idk who is running the offense for him.

I honestly have come around on Kubiak being the guy. I just see that being the guy we would most likely hire. He brings a dedicated staff that isn’t leaving anytime soon if ever and he will have a clear vision of the type of players that will fit his system.

Why do you say that wrt Kubiak? Is it due to his dad's posse or is it for another reason? That's a genuine question as I'm not sure if it's an assumption they follow him like his dad or if they're their own people or what.

If they wanted to go with a offensive mind, and are worried about losing Joe Brady, firing McDermott to promote Joe Brady to Head Coach seems to make the most sense. Then again, Joe Brady was at LSU with Burrow and I thought the Bengals would fire Zac Taylor to reunite Joe Brady and Burrow to keep Burrow happy.
I do think the Joe Brady-Burrow connection is somewhat overrated. He was the passing game coordinator and WR coach at LSU. Yes, they did work together, I just think it's blown out of proportion.
