Coaching Carousel 2026

I'm not going to sit here and pretend that I know everything, because I absolutely do not. But the wide variance in these reports says all it needs to say. That Gary Myers guy from NY seems to be very pro-Harbaugh and I'm not sure it's hard to figure out why...

notable that rapsheet and schefter's reporting on this is at odds with each other too which suggests that different sources have different opinions on the matter lol

and also notable that some of the big national people (the actual journalists) have been smelling bullshit all over some of these briefings right from the beginning and it makes it only more obvious with every passing "new" brief

So Matt LaFleur, if fired after Saturday, trumps all candidates to ya’ll?

I'm torn. Mind tells me the right choice would be Kubiak, for Lamar's sake but my heart wants a SOB like Flores or Saleh. Keep coming back to Saleh/other Kubiak (as OC) combo.

i think, for me, the market on offensive HCs is so much better than the OC market (other than Mike McDaniel), the market at DC is likely to be pretty similar to the market for defensive HCs

not saying that Flores or Saleh wouldn't necessarily be great, but also, those guys or guys like them may end up being DCs anyway

if you don't hire an offensive HC, then the guys you're potentially shopping around for as OCs are Kliff Kingsbury, Brian Daboll, trying to snipe one of the non-playcalling OCs like Klay Kubiak or hiring a passing game/QB coach type guy

i much prefer the idea of having to shop more regularly (if that's the case) at the Brian Flores, Raheem Morris or Dennard Wilson shop vs the Kliff Kingsbury, Nate Scheelhaase, Thomas Brown shop

i think so
Has run a high quality organisation for multiple years
Rodgers had his best years with LaFleur as the HC (when he had the reins taken off him a bit)
Developed Jordan Love
Has run a successful offence and the ability to adapt to injuries etc.
Has hired good DCs

not saying we'd have to go that route
but he'd be the guy with the best resume of the bunch by far

Yeah. No way to keep a good OC for longer than a year or maybe two unless he's a HC.

I don't think he'll be fired if they are out.

or you have some greybeard former HC who no one wants as a retread - but im not sure those guys really exist anymore (maybe Matt Nagy's the closest example)

but yeah, if you want consistency of identity (and scheme) over time, then you have to hire an offensive HC - especially as that coach is able to create an offensive infrastructure that, if successful, coaches will want to be a part of, and you then create your pipeline of future OCs as and when yours get hired away, with the consistent throughline of your head coach

cant build infrastructure to last (from a coaching sense) if your guy gets poached in a year

I would really love if we hired a guy like a Mike McDaniel, Klint Kubiak, Matt LaFleur (if he becomes available) - they bring in their shanahan tree guys, but maybe keep a guy like Tee Martin - you can attach an older more experienced DC to them if you feel they need the support, or you see if Anthony Weaver's amenable to being a DL/Assistant HC type guy

i would love to have a flores type guy here - but if im building a franchise to last with a coaching staff that will hopefully outlast even Lamar, i want an offensive guy

Nagy, Kingsbury, Weaver are guys I am lukewarm on. I do like Weaver but I just don't think he can add the gameplan dynamic that I'd prefer in our next HC.

I feel like we can just find a better DC. I feel like Orr aside, we've always managed to replace DCs who left this team. I feel like we can do it again, too. Will we always have a crazy good defense? Maybe not, but top-10 is good enough to win a championship IMHO. I feel we can find that and field that with the defensive talent we have at this moment.
