Coaching Carousel 2026

Titans scheduled an interview with Mike McDaniel for their HC vacancy. Come on, Steve…

Hahaha it's cuz A blank thinks Lamar is a bum who's worse than D riddler. Probably thinks harbs is a god for taking us to the playoffs
Have you seen Harbaugh's arrogant demands as coach: 20 mill per year , 10 mill staff budget, complete control of the roster and he picks the GM !!!! This is what I heard. Without Lamar his record would not be that good.

But if the right guys are successful, we're never going to have a consistency.
Alluded to it in my longer post, but if you create a pipeline, that may not matter. They did it defensively up until they blew it with Orr. You may lose the original "right guy" but that doesn't mean there aren't more waiting in the wings if you do it right.

Real talk though... how fun is it to be able to even have this discourse? It's been 18 years since this has even been a conversation. I was 15 years old at the time and a football idiot. And who knows, maybe it's another 18 years before we get to have these talks again. I'm going to enjoy these discussions while they last.

I just mentioned this individually via PM, but on the Weaver front...

People fear his defensive success (or lack thereof) but if he were to get the job, I would almost be willing to bet part of the agreement is that he is not going to be running the defense. There would be an expectation that the DC in place is in charge. I was told very explicitly that they viewed his as a much better HC candidate than a DC candidate and that was the biggest factor why he didn't get the job back when Orr did. I don't see that switching, especially after seeing similar themes down in Miami.

I don't hate the idea of a head coach not calling plays but I would definitely want them plugged in on at least one side of the ball and able to compile a good staff and not be afraid to make changes. If he can get the right staff in and not wait too long or refuse to hold people accountable then I would be okay with it although there are others I would rather have and think we will have our pick of the coaches not named Harbaugh.

My top choice is definitely Kubiak.
Bring back Gary as an advisor, Dennison, Parianni, and let's rock together again
Gary Kubiak was so good for Flacco the one year we had him, having a guy like that for Lamar would be amazing and it would be worth the trade off of having to be smart at DC for me. I mean you have guys like Spags and Fangio who are fine at being DC for long stretches of time so if you can find one of those, you are cooking.

Long term, maybe.

I just wish we try that with an option that, at least on paper, looks like a far better shot at maximising what's left of Lamar's prime.

I know I've been playing devil's advocate, so to jump off that bridge...

I think they will if they deem that guy the best option, or at least a fairly negligible difference.

But if one of the other types is the best option, they're not going to pick the worse option just for the sake of having specialization on one side of the ball.

building infrastructure and a pipeline takes time though
you hire a guy to build all of that, it goes great, he's out after 1 year and with no confidence that the values have embedded within the staff on a longer term basis

Depends how they build the staff. Theoretically let’s just say you pick a McDaniel as on OC. There’s a good chance he’s bringing guys with him.

Obviously doesn’t work as well if you’re picking a first time coordinator though.

I don't recall.... Who were the other DC candidates when Mikey left?

Then there’s the high likelihood that he takes those guys with him when he gets his HC gig the next year. I understand what you’re saying though

I mean, theoretically the guy under him stays and takes the play calling promotion instead of following and taking an OC in name only type of gig.

Yeah when Kubiak left for the Broncos I believe he took a lot of guys with him on offense and we ended up going Trestman afterwards which was a step back for the offense
To be fair, Dennison was following Kubiak anywhere. That was his whole career at the time lol
