Coaching Carousel 2026

It's really tough to do what he did without Warner and Bosa for almost entire season. Great DC.
He had that Jets defense looking good as well although they had a lot of talent. You saw the fall off in real time when they got rid of him. Plus you know he would absolutely love to put Rodgers into retirement.

Also kinda a point against Glenn when that group played as bad as they did this year, Jets can keep him

I'm quite pleased I managed to understand that, though I'm not going to attempt to reply in Spanish.

I agree with what you say about Orr. Using Simpson more often in a PQ role would have helped.

I still don't understand why you think running 4-2-5 from a historical 4/3 background would need different personnel or change Hamilton's role compared to running it 4-2-5 from a historical 3/4 background.

Sorry, sometimes the translator changes it too quickly and it stays in Spanish.

I feel that the 4-3 (or 4-2) formation is more predictable and depends on higher quality defensive linemen. I don't think Green or Robinson are good at a 4-man lineup, maybe if you line him up with the linebacker. And that's where Hamilton comes in. Using him the way you do in the same position allows him to do more things (blitz, cover, run defense) than he would at a 4-man lineup.

Assuming Madubuike comes back, you already have the interior with Madubuike and Jones. You'll need a couple edge players. Green we like, obviously.
We won't be finding a Myles Garrett because he's closer to a unicorn than anything. That's why some of the better pass rush units, like the Eagles, prioritize depth at spots like edge. They can rotate 3-4 guys at any point in time. If all you have is four, and they have to rush the passer 40-50 times a game, they're going to get worn out late in the game.

I think Hamilton would continue to play a blend of Safety and SCB in an ideal system.

Madibuike is the key to the offseason on defense. If he's back this defense is very close to being dominant again.

So a) a 4-3 and a 4-2-5 aren't interchangeable. A 4-3 has three off-ball linebackers. A 4-2-5 is effectively Nickel package, which is the base defense and most prominently played defense for pretty much all teams.
b) Everybody is playing the same formations for the most part, so the "predictability" aspect of things doesn't matter based on the personnel grouping. The variations come in who rushes, who doesn't, and pre-snap disguises.

Mike MacDonald's scheme, for example, formational wise, is quite simplistic. and predictable. It's a two high Safety Nickel defense. The disguise comes from the coverage and blitz packages out of it. Not knowing how many rushers there are, where they're coming from, man vs zone coverages, etc. are where the complexities lie.

In my opinion, the best defenses can achieve two things... 1. Stop the run out of two-high Safety looks and 2. Be able to get pressure on the QB with four rushers. If you can do those two things with some decent frequency, you'll be at least a top half of the league defense. It doesn't matter how those looks are achieved or disguised.

I think to be a good 4-3 defense we would need a good 3 tech. I am not optimistic on Madibuike being healthy so it would be a hole to fill for sure but probably one we need to fill regardless with interior pass rush being really important for a good defense.

Anyway, I already know that the 3-4 or 4-3 formations as we know them are outdated. The Hamiltons make using a basic 3-4 more effective because it gives you versatility to disguise and create matchups, advantages, and pressures that you wouldn't otherwise have. I say Hamilton, but I could also say Emanwori or James.

Ultimately, the style you use is determined by the players you have. Our key defensive players today are Jones, Hamilton, and Roquan (even though he played poorly this year), and they adapt better to a basic 3-4. That's my point
I believe Roquan's dropoff, which got better when we traded for Gilman, is directly attritbuted to Orr's scheme. I also believe Humphrey's dropoff may also be attributed to Orr's defense.

Wow, I've been watching NFL since I was 5 years old, back in 1971.

So what did you do during the black out years with no team in Baltimore? I'm curious because us older fans went in different directions. For me I was 11 yrs old when the Colts left, but to be perfectly honest I never liked the Colts anyways and had already adopted the Eagles. When the Ravens were born i immediately identified my spirit animal; purple and black my favorite combo, named after a poem and from my childhood city of Baltimore. I had always stayed an Orioles fan through thin and thinner.

But alas, i was way, way too all in on the Eagles at the time coming off the Cunningham/Buddy Ryan years. I just couldn't abandon them so i made a pact, Ravens would be my #2/AFC team until the Eagles won their 1st SB.

Eagles finally won it and the second i saw the Ravens trade back into the 1st (with the Eagles SB pick) for Lamar I knew it was time to finally come home. Still root eagles now as my #2/NFC team and my 2nd team keeps having more success than the primary one but I do feel more in my skin as a football fan than ever.

TLDR, it's also my first rodeo for regime change as a Ravens fan.

I wasn't a Ravens fan until 2015. I was a Redskins fan prior to that, although I loved the Raiders as well because I loved Kenny Stabler. He's still my favorite player all time. I do remember listening to the Raiders - Colts playoff game because it was blacked out. This was the famous "Ghost to the Post" pass to Dave Casper (Casper the friendly Ghost) play that forced overtime and then the Raiders won it in double OT. It was a sold out stadium, but by rules back then it had to be sold out 72 hours in advance or else it would be blocked out in the home area.

Wow, I'm an older Ravens fan than many of you here.
On January 7th, I celebrated 25 years as a Ravens fan, since Ravens vs. Titans, Ray Lewis vs. Eddie George.

And since that day, I still don't understand much jajaja

The other day I was watching a video explaining McDonald's defense, and they were talking about it as if it were "conceptual." They used so many blitz and attack variations within the same formation that it made it very difficult for the opposing quarterback to prevent them.

And they said the key is Hamilton.

It probably helps bring born and raised in Baltimore, but I have been a fan since they came here in 96 despite only being 3 at the time. My grandfather was lugging me to training camp from day 1. But obviously being that young and having other priorities, it really didn’t settle in to the extremism until my late teens.

Last time Ravens picked a HC I ended up with super mixed feelings. That was the year the legendary Jim Johnson fell to health and eventually passed away. Harbaugh was next in line for DC but the Ravens jumped in and offered him the top job. eagles were left flat footed, thrusting a not yet ready Sean McDermott into the role. I remember thinking Ozzie better have this right because if he doesn't he's screwing both my teams!

But it was peak Ozzie, of course he got it right.

steelers have the high end talent at EDGE but also they have 3-4 guys they like who they can throw at opposing OL on a rotational basis
They also have the best DL coach in the league.

I so wished the Ravens brought Dunbar in from Alabama back in '17 / '18. I did not like our D front under Cullen. That was a year or two after Clarence Brooks passed.
