Coaching Carousel 2026

best thing about tomlin stepping down now is that the steelers dont even get to be the most attractive landing spot which would be unheard of lol

only spot that might be more attractive (that could potentially come open) is the Packers job - good roster, good QB, no owner, lots of organisational patience, historic franchise

Yeah that roster is a mess. Years of bad decisions of "going for it" with a mediocre team has resulted in an aging roster with no QB. Yes, the FO and their patience rivals what we have here in Baltimore, but the rosters are worlds apart (and even more frustrating that we lost to them twice).

also not that it's surprising but sounds like the main virtual interview panel to help narrow the 15-18 candidates down to 4-5 to bring in in-person is EDC, Sashi and Ozzie

Who’s gonna want that job?

No QB, No WRs, Aging Defense.
I mean you're a QB away from above average. There's no organization that will keep you longer for not winning than they will.

I personally don't view it as a "great" job, but it's better than most of the one's that are open. I don't think their GM/Owner are big spenders and I think they have a certain "culture" there that basically rewards mediocrity. And I don't think that culture came from the HC.

really candid talking about how the way players progressed (or didnt) suggests that there have been some coaching issues, certainly this year
was not expecting that level of honesty but it's the same indicators we, as fans, have seen

Sounds like a combination of a) positional coaching being ass, which we all knew and b) Harbaugh likely being too loyal to them. I think it's fair to say there's maybe not one positional group on the team that significantly improved from the prior year.

and steve admitted at the beginning that not every reason to get rid of harbaugh was directly harbaugh related
but ultimately all these coaching failings (and some other things) have fallen in Harbs lap

but i think based on the way they've been talking and moving that there won't be a ton of guys being retained from the coaching side of things

Who'd have won this season had Tomlin coached the Ravens and John Steelers?

lamar being invited to be a big part of the final interviews
basically being invited to be a partner in that process - but got to be in it 100% so not just dropping in and out, full schedule etc.

I took this as "time for you to step up and be a leader and take over this thing big boy"

The stepping away from coaching is the surprising part, thought for sure he'd just go to a different team. Also how is the Steelers opening "coveted" when there is uncertainty at QB?
definitely not as coveted due to not having a QB.

Yep, basically the same roster going backwards two consecutive years. That's on coaching.

Loved how Steve answered the question about possibly hiring Tomlin. He and I see eye to eye about that asshole, agree that he’s a big asshole. lol

I thought it was interesting he led the conference saying he talked to EDC 3-4 weeks ago about Harbs
Yeah, Steve basically had his mind made up way before any interview, or even before the loss to the Steelers. Went with his gut feeling that it was time for wholesale change.

I love just hearing and seeing Bisciotti’s brain work. He’s so candid. Not rehearsed at all.
I don't know. Him saying he was mad about the stuff he was hearing about Harbaugh's faults and saying he was mad about it because he was a friend ,but then firing him for many of those same reasons sounded disingenuous to me.
