Coaching Carousel 2026

And he better fucking do it.

If they are giving him this opportunity, and he doesn’t take advantage to the fullest extent, then he’s not serious enough about winning a Super Bowl and I’d start questioning his character.

Not to say I think he’ll piss away this opportunity to be involved in the hiring, just saying I REALLY hope he’s all in on this process as much as possible.

being asked to spend an extra 5 days at the facility (and being offered a private jet to make it happen) should not be a tough sell for him
i get that it's the offseason and it's about his family time etc. - it's a unique opportunity that he's being offered

but i think lamar is a really serious person, and if he thinks it's important to be involved, i think he'll be there... and i think we won't know if he was there unless the HC candidates tell us

to not have a losing season in 19 as a HC is an amazing achievement
And the fact that it’s been obvious in quite a few of those years that it was not a roster meant to win. He’s elevated so many of those teams it’s not funny. Will probably never get the respect he deserves because there’s only 1 SB to show for it but I think he’s been as good of a coach of some of the best to ever do it if you ask me.

I'm just now catching up but here's what I am thinking:

1. Mike Tomlin gone, wow. Thinking back to when Tomlin & Harbaugh talked in the last game makes me think both knew their time with their teams was coming to an end. I think Mike leaving is related to Harbaugh because he didn't want Harbaugh to pass him as longest tenured coach.
2. Nothing mentioned on Madubuike makes me feel it is headed in a bad direction
3. Steve said what a lot of us did--if he is replacing the OC & DC, may as well replace Harbaugh too
4. Hearing how the phone call played out better than the narrative. It made sense with how Steve explained it.

there were a few steelers rosters there where i was sure that streak would be broken
and in some ways he's a victim of his own success - because they've not had the draft capital to address the most important position in football - they're highest draft pick since Tomlin was HC was 10th (and they had to trade up from 20 for that pick), the 2nd highest draft pick during his tenure was 14th (they had to trade up from 17) - so think their highest actual draft slotting during his tenure was 15th overall...

tough to find QBs when those are your options albeit they definitely could have picked their classes better to try

best thing about tomlin stepping down now is that the steelers dont even get to be the most attractive landing spot which would be unheard of lol

only spot that might be more attractive (that could potentially come open) is the Packers job - good roster, good QB, no owner, lots of organisational patience, historic franchise

Listen to Tony’s answer about the Steelers coaching preference.. (young, DC)… I think they gonna go for Chris Shula.

I really believe the HC will be from:

Minter
Saleh
Flores
McDaniel
Stefanski

Webb and Scheelhause are the dark horses as the young offensive prodigy types... i think if you're interested in kubiak, you should be more interested in mike mcdaniel - so definitely agree on the rest of the list

obviously someone could come and blow them away at interview
Chris Shula's got lots of supporters in media and around the league, as does Jeff Hafley

I've cooled on Kubiak. Just watching his media makes me feel like he doesn't have the "it" factor to be a HC. I could be wrong, just doesn't seem strong enough in personality.

I also don't think he's some crazy genius either. In a stronger cosching year he wouldn't be at the very top of the OC side.

Steve, what a man!

The charisma, the passion, the no bullshitness (new word)...he must be so fucking easy to work for. I've just finished watching the hour long video on the team site and its been the quickest hour of my week :D

One of my favourite lines was when he was asked about how much say Lamar has on the final decision...

"A lot of say, but he has no power. I have the power, they have opinions and I want them all. I care about my players very much but I can't give them power."

I genuinely don't care who is hired at this point because he gives me so much confidence that the necessary due diligence will be done.

Steve Bisciotti is the only billionaire that one can believe is a self made billionaire. Just his demeanor, honesty and ability to straight shoot is so impressive and uncanny. Wow! He is an impressive billionaire.

and steve admitted at the beginning that not every reason to get rid of harbaugh was directly harbaugh related
but ultimately all these coaching failings (and some other things) have fallen in Harbs lap

but i think based on the way they've been talking and moving that there won't be a ton of guys being retained from the coaching side of things
I'm usually not the guy blaming assistant coaches much. All those years spent pretending like Juan Castillo was the reason the Ravens couldn't win. They're impactful, but not monumentally.

That being said... a lot of us saw this coming in the preseason. Easily the worst staff of assistant coaches I think I've seen ever in Baltimore. While MacDonald earned everything he had, the crew of assistants who left for promotions or better opportunities from that staff was super high.

This staff has nothing like that.

To me the most intriguing so far is David Webb... I don't know why, but this young man is impressive based on everything I've read and heard about him. If he does get selected as the HC or OC, I may adopt him also to keep Lamar company at home.

David Web is the real name of this guy

Coach is Davis

If anyone wants, here’s my notes on the presser.

Talked to Eric 3-4 weeks ago, likely after Patriots
Led league in giving up big leads in 4th quarter
Underperforming in playoff seeding
Great players making mistakes in postseason uncommon in regular season
Talked to veterans about decision. Lamar is not confrontational but Lamar knew we needed to make changes but Lamar did not influence his decision.
Steve gets a financial offset if John takes a HC gig

John will go somewhere that they have a QB.

I didn’t realize Billick got us a SB in 2 years. Kinda similar to how Billick and Harbaugh both fired due to talented roster that underperformed.

EDC wants to do a deal with Lamar to go after big ticket items but it sounds like that isn’t necessarily preventing us.

Retread HC who were previously hot OC & DC 6-7 years ago in their cycles who went to non competitive teams without QBs. They will not be disqualified just because they had a losing record but they will look at the reason why. They will be “keen to those circumstances and not be influenced by their first shot in this one”. There is no need for a DC HC or an OC HC preference.

No changes to HC reporting structure. Also shows that there’s not as much ego at the top

Steve will do the final interviews after the initial Zoom screening. It will also include Lamar at that point. Eric is texting Lamar after every interview. Some of these interviews aren’t exclusively over Zoom and some are in person. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is to satisfy the Rooney rule before it reaches Steve.

College coaches are asking to come here

Sounds like coaches must go through Zoom interview to reach Steve (implied but never directly stated)

Won’t talk specifics about Madubuike. Awaiting more info.

Eric blames roster failure on not playing consistently game to game (Defense, Offense, etc) and must do better to create pressure on Defense to help the secondary, affecting QB & pocket. OL was inconsistent but we have pieces despite narrative that it was bad. OL just didn’t gel great this year. Not one specific thing. Steve blamed the coaches for the roster failure. He mentioned OL and pass rush too but showed how we did well last year at those weaknesses but not this year despite the narrative being the same. Madubuike loss blamed for KVN reduced numbers. Teams doubled Travis without Madubuike (implying need for another interior DL pressure) and called out the OL for not improving (implying Warhop is to blame). Many guys on this team didn’t take the next step who should have and we will look at that for scouting and coaching failures.

Eric said they were prepared for new coach and want best leader they can find who holds players accountable, relatable to players but firm, continue culture and know X & Os.

Steve isn’t afraid to use void years to handle the Lamar extension if needed. They’re working out an alternative that mirrors the last deal with a higher annual number but with a structure similar to the last contract. Don’t want this to drag out again

I love how these rich billionaires are just like us whose wives will give them shit for not doing stuff or meeting their promises lol

Steve said he wants the person to be picked by Eric, Sashi and Ozzie. Steve will give his opinions and reservations. Sounds like there will be a top 5 list at the end of the day that they use, similar to how Eric does his draft board.

Steve put his foot in his mouth with the Tucker comment about making the kick and Eric saved him by saying “how do you know” to talk up Tyler and minimise the miss.

Sounds like they expect to be done in 3 weeks. They will be done 9 interviews by Sunday and some more after then will go through the candidates to bring it down to 4-5 to bring them back in. They’re asking candidates about assistant coaches, what their staff will look like, etc. They’re very focused on the coordinators and position coaches and that combo more than a single HC.

HC sounds like they want someone who holds people accountable and continue their current culture. They won’t be swayed by people who have knowledge of our org like Weaver and will handicap that accordingly.

They don’t believe in the mindset of being one player away. They won’t trade the farm for a player and eat cap as it’s prohibitive but it has to be right player right price. They will look at elite gamewreckers. Sounds like Eric is more emphasising current players vs draft players, since he emphasizes paying them and paying the draft picks too.

Steve stopped State of the Ravens because of a question when they asked how close he was to firing Harbaugh after making the divisional round. So whoever did that caused him to just stop it.

John seems like he was going to get rid of both coordinators and that pushed Steve over the edge to decide his gut was right. That there were plans to move on and Steve said he may as well drop Harbaugh too since we may as well at this point. I think it’s strategic direction and knowing the players and John may not have the same relationship if both coordinators are gone and John is still there
