Coaching Carousel 2026

I'm really surprised that Hafley hasn't been interviewed. I talked about him when I brought up possible candidates in the middle of the season and thought he could be a hot candidate. Supposedly his interviews have been really good around the league.

First role that compares to ours, but they’re 2 weeks behind. Curious if we step our game up now.
The only real thing we have is were the blended middle ground

We have elite QB
We have elite owner
We have elite FO

The Bills nor Steelers have that going for them in all 3 areas. It probably does put urgency but I don’t want to skip on Kubiak, Webb, Shula, Scheelhauss if they’re great. I doubt we will though

Could easily argue that's the most desirable job now. New stadium, elite QB, etc.

And logically, does McDermott enter our list of candidates?

The Bills can't interview them either. No need to rush

Why do you think the Bills don't have good ownership or a good FO?

Bills have a history of firing HC. They did give them all some time but I wouldn’t put their owner above our owner.

FO wise who do they have who they drafted that really stands out in a big way besides Allen?

I think Ravens have an edge there. QB is a wash

I don’t think they should be. McDermott is a good coach but playoff success matters. Not too dissimilar to what happened here.
The biggest shock is the coaching shakeup this year with some established powerhouse teams. Only Andy Reid survived of the big AFC powerhouses

The Chiefs not being in the playoffs probably spurred some of this. This became ‘the time’ and no one was able to capitalize
I think that’s precisely true for the AFC. There was no excuse to not go grab the gold. The newer teams lik Chargers, Broncos, etc who haven’t had this success are well insulated.

I did like the pressure the Bills got. Only issue I have with Sean is whether he defense was iffy due to him picking players or because of Beane. That’s the consensus in Buffalo too

Bills have a history of firing coaches that aren't successful early. So do the Ravens. Ted Marchibroda was fired after three years.
The reason Billick and Harbaugh lasted a long time is because they won and won early. Billick won a SB in his second year. Harbaugh was in a conference championship game as a rookie HC.

I don't think the Ravens are really any more or less "stable" from a HC position than any other franchise. They've just been more successful at finding quality coaches. If we hire somebody and we miss the playoffs the first 3 years, especially without going through a rebuild, I'd bet heaps and heaps of $ Steve will fire them.

We actually don't know what Steve will do if the next HC doesn't win and win early. He wasn't the majority owner when we hired Billick, and obviously John won a ton early. We know that he became majority owner in 2004, and he fired a SB winning coach within four years because he didn't win.

In terms of the FO, I don't think they've done enough to build up pass catchers around Allen, but then again, they seem to have a roster good enough to beat damn near everybody in the AFC not named Mahomes. And they've beaten him plenty of times in the regular season as well. Defensively they're strong in pass coverage and at pass rush, and they pretty consistently have a good Oline.

I don't think it's the world's best FO, but I don't think people can argue that the roster construction isn't good enough.

They have high usage. Kincaid and Knox combined for just under 100 targets this year. And Kincaid missed five games. For comparison, they only had ten less targets than the Ravens TEs.

Kincaid was 2nd in targets last year despite missing 4 games. That guy would be among the league leaders in usage for TEs if he played a full season.
