Coaching Carousel 2026

I will say - the last couple of days have really shown why ownership makes a difference

The pegulas are getting cooked right now and have apparently been caught off guard by some of the sentiment around

They give off an uninvolved and disengaged demeanour despite that not necessarily being true

Also interesting that they seemed to highlight the “2nd chance coaches” and apparently haven’t loved their interviews (other than I guess Stefanski who seemed like he was going to get a 2nd interview). The coaches getting 2nd interviews now are first time guys

I wonder if McDaniel gets a 2nd interview but otherwise yeah looks like a clean sweep of nos for the retread guys

Think the ravens want to interview all of their finalist which would likely include David Webb

I may have missed a report but I didn’t know that he was a likely finalist. And obviously, that could also go for the coaches on the Rams staff too, IF they are finalists.

Yeah, definitely still time and spots open for some 2nd interviews on the retreads. Can’t count them out just yet.

I can't find the tweet now, but there's a clip of Schefter out there nailing it on the Ravens front - they have 0 panic. They wanted to talk to Stefanski again but he was not a favorite for the job. Saleh was not advancing at all. Their preferences are still out there and they're going to hire the guy they feel is the best fit, public thought be damned.

That's the tweet you was talking about

On the one hand, it's a fine strategy. And for this hiring period, where I think coaching decisions are based on preference as opposed to there being like 1-2 "slam dunk candidates", this approach is fine.

On the flip side... this "wait back and let things develop" mentality, to a certain extent, has us in the position we're in. Not much aggression in the draft to move up and get difference makers. Not willing to "over spend" on a short term player or rental who can help us. More aggressive teams do these things, and while some of them fail, some of them also yield big-time results.

he used a draft analagy

basically, they'll let the board come to them

The coaching search doesn’t feel comparable to Free Agency to me. For the most part (and even then its not an exact science) with FA you have film you can study to know who will fit your scheme, how good they are, etc., before you ever bring them in.

For a coach, these guys flame out all the time after being elevated to HC. I like that their interview process is extremely thorough. This is the most important transaction the Ravens will likely make for the next 5 years (barring a change at GM in the future.)

John spoke a second time and has yet to say anything to the fans. I find that interesting

I'm not suggesting they're comparable. I don't think Schefter's analogy really holds up much at all. He's comparing it to our draft strategy, which is similar, but then again, our draft strategy has failed plenty of times due to lack of aggression.

I think the only thing that matters here is that a) there's no single candidate who has distanced themselves enough from the group for the Ravens to fear losing them and b) some of their picks are still playing and literally can't be finalized on, which is the same barrier every other team faces. They have no reason to rush to sign Kubiak or Webb or Shula because nobody else can sign them either. In a hypothetical world, where all of the Ravens top candidates weren't still in the playoffs (doesn't really ever happen, so moot), I think the Ravens would have either already hired somebody, or be finalizing a hire in the next 48 hours. It's the circumstances that are driving the process to a certain extent.
