Coaching Carousel 2026

I mean of course it’s Payton. If the success was the QB coach, that’d still be a disaster team.

I don’t think Webb’s evaluation has anything to do with team success and more so the qualities that he brings.
Maybe he is a quality guy but I'm nervous because of OC/DC selections if he's the new HC. His age, too.

Well it's definitely Kubiak at this point. I think we would have hired Minter by now if he was the guy. I think there's enough of what they do in Seattle that is similar to what we do to make him the most obvious hire. They too rely on being a run first team with multiple backs and play really strong defense. Plus, we would be able to poach from Macdonald's staff defensively as well. I too have concern over the fact this team is for whatever reason Chris Horton is being kept. Are we forcing the new HC to hire him and maybe some candidates are saying no because they want their own ST coach? @Simba Has your guy heard anything about potential candidates being forced to hire Horton?

this kid is a future star. Per my Buffalo Bills friend. He remembers him running the qb room when he was the backup qb. Zrebiec said he was basically a qb coach masquerading as a backup qb.

Is it early, yeah probably is, but he could be extremely successful.

No one is passing up a job over the ST coordinator

We don't need a guy to run a QB room, he needs to run the team or at least be accomplished OC/DC. And we need him NOW, not in the future. We have prime Lamar for maybe 3-4 more years.

my only concern with Webb is he's only 3 yrs into his coaching career, but just as I did with McVay when he was TEs coach in washington, I'm pretty sure he's going to be a very successful head coach.

I'm also concerned with how laid back Klint Kubiak is. He brings a very good system and most likely staff with him, atleast on offense so that's great. I still see Minter as the top candidate. I think we will know more after Minters interview tomorrow and that is because he goes to cleveland the day after us.

When Sean Mcvay was hired by the Rams I think when he was in this early 30's he made sure to hire Wade Philips and John Fassell to his coaching staff. These were older coaches that had previous head coach experienced and or had won a super bowl before. Same with Mike McDonald whom decided to hire Leslie Frazier to his coaching staff. These are smart decisions for a head coach especially those that are inexperience and realize that they probably need some one in their corner to help with communicating with players and given them pointers on how to a good head coach and etc.

For young inexperience guys like Davis Webb, Jessie Minter, Klint Kubiak, and or Nathan Scheelhaase that may have it in them as leaders of an entire team but might need experience guys like Kliff Kingsbury, Brian Daboll, Anthony Weaver, Raheem Morris, Pete Carroll, and etc to help them on their head coach journey.

I wonder what is going to happen with Tee Martin. Will he ever get a shot at OC somewhere?

Wonder if Minter is going to wow them enough in tomorrow’s in-person interview to the point where they say “F waiting til after the conference title game.. he’s our guy!”

Guess we’ll see soon.

and when @Truth becomes head coach, @Simba will be his defensive coordinator. Lets get off the ridiculous rumors for now.

I'd rather GM, but with the candidates thinning, it's looking like double duty. Simba can also double as the ST coordinator so that he can get a handle on the kickoffs.

Disappointed to see Mike McDaniel go to the Chargers, but that's about as good of an upgrade for their offense as you can expect. And we still have some terrific options on the table.

Kliff as an OC is such an interesting concept because (a) it focuses on quick reads and quick decisions which we need at times but also (b) takes away one of Lamar's best attributes which is progressing through his reads and making plays. It's the ultimate example of pros and cons. On paper, it takes something we struggle with and makes it better, but also takes something we're great at and diminishes its value.

it completely takes the ceiling off the offence
any hire that limits lamar's ceiling is a bad thing to me

Damn. Really wanted McDaniel.

All eyes on Kubiak now. I like Minter but if he’s bringing Kingsbury with him, I don’t want him.
I don't hate the idea of Kingsbury as OC as much as everyone else seems to. He has his flaws but he is a good designer of plays.

Every year he comes in with some new stuff that has his offenses flying for the first half of the season before the league catches up and it stagnates. (Flaws as I said.)

He designs a good run game and his teams always run the ball better than you'd expect given their O Line/ RB talent. Considering what the Ravens did with Monken, who isn't anything special with the run game, an upgrade there could make a big difference to our offense.

He's worked with mobile QBs for years. At first, he didn't use Kyler's legs nearly enough (Flaws again) but he'd improved with that by the time he got to Washington / Daniels.

If we end up with a defensive HC, I think we could do a lot worse at OC.
