Coaching Carousel 2026

then it really is doyle or bust

We have the most attractive OC position available. It offers the most play calling power and with Lamar and Henry in place it's the most immediate springboard to HC (got friggin' Monken a top gig). There's almost guaranteed to be a red hot name who gets left out on musical chairs. That dude will prolly bolt to baltimore.

I think Monken tipped the scale because he can try to ape Harbs system in Cleveland. Also, Schwartz belonged to the Stefanski system that they had no desire to incorporate. As much as they liked Schwartz, I think the Ravens culture may have tipped the scale in Monken's favor.

Having said all this, I think he is a bull shit artist and has talked the talk with Haslem and will be out in 2027 looking for a job. The Brows will always Brown.

I can't believe how Browns the Browns Browned. Schwartz is a very thorny dude who has openly pined to be HC again for forever. There were even rumors back in the day he was undermining Doug Pedersen to get the Eagles job when he was DC there. So obviously he was going to take getting passed over for Monken very badly.

They trade a perennial top 10 DC who commanded their locker room for a schematically league average OC and general milquetoast on a team with no Qb.

There aren't many, if any, "red hot names" left. That's the point. No reason for Webb to leave Denver. No reason for Scheelhasse to leave LAR. These guys are getting HC looks without being play callers, and they have exceptional play callers they can learn from by staying right where they are.

It's likely either Doyle, Kingsbury (which seems unlikely at this point), or likely a name we haven't heard of.

Just hire Kliff at this point.

I’ll take his pretty ass over Tee Martin.

Maybe. Or maybe one of them decides the best way to not only get a HC gig, but get the #1 job out there in the next couple cycles is by stepping out of those long shadows and play calling for Lamar. Scheelhaase in particular seems like a guy who doesn't want to be bottled.

Or maybe play calling for Lamar isn't the greatest job in the world that people make it out to be. You could argue that play calling for Webb and Scheelhaase specifically comes with inherent risk of failure, which would reduce their chances of landing a HC gig.

With Lamar in particular, even if you develop a prolific offense, two other coordinators have already done that here with the same QB.

If we don’t get Declan I’d be fine with Kingsbury honestly

The obvious other sides of keeping Schwartz as HC is that your offense still sucks and you still need both talent and play calling infusions across nearly all fronts of that offense. Including possibly QB. As we've mentioned with the Ravens, not a lot of high profile OC's left for Schwartz to choose from, and Monken obviously isn't coming to CLE to be an OC.
The defense still has plenty of talent.

I wouldn't have hired Monken, because I don't think he's a HC type, but I absolutely would have hired an offensive-minded coach to develop either Sanders or a draft pick to be the QB of the future, and I wouldn't have given two fucks what a career DC thinks about it. That defense is coached well for certain, but it also has a shit load of high-end players on it.

I'm sure the players love him. They're the same players that have played in a losing culture for a long time.

If they can pull this off this would be a fantastic addition to the staff

If he lands Leonard, that would continue his great start to his staff.

However, I do wonder about the fit. I remember reading Jim hates cover 4 and Minter runs that at a decent clip. However, the match coverage aspect is there within both guys style of play.

In the end, I don’t see him coming here because Minter is likely calling the defense and he will undoubtedly get play calling rights in Buffalo if they offer him the job.

Announce your OC at the PC coward!!!!!!!!!

Monken was very successful with Lamar. This year was a down year due to his injuries and offensive line. Are you really saying Monken wasn't successful with Lamar.

I know this has been the take here but it hasn’t panned out that way.

Well the cards are still falling for the HC positions. It's when those are up that we see who is left and somebody you aren't expecting could very well be there and looking.

That said I'm perfectly fine with Doyle. Declan/Ledford would be a very loud statement of committing to run the football and play action pass. That's a great fit.

Yeah I think the takeaway from there is , if Monken spring boarded to a HC gig here, imagine what a hot shot kid getting Lamar over the hump can get. Going back to Scheelhaase, why let a "lesser" guy like Doyle run that baby and take all the credit, when there isn't really any more credit to take baby sitting for Mcvay/Stafford.
