Coaching Carousel 2026

Roman is Roman and was never head coach material and this is a team game. It wasn't just Lamar's fault we weren't in the Super Bowl. If you are going to blame it on Lamar that we didn't get to the Super Bowl, well that is your opinion. He as MVP one season and arguably should have been MVP in two of those seasons.

His last 3 seasons, under Monken, he has had a 134.95 QB Rating (best in league) for intermediate and deep passing totals and for intermediate passing alone, he is by far the best in the league with a 142.53 QB Ratiing. Did he win a super bowl, no unfortunately he didn't, but that doesn't mean he hasn't performed well and improved tremendously in that span.

You can discount these numbers all you want.
I mean he certainly deserves some blame for not making the SB. He made critical mistakes in nearly all of the games that denied him getting there. And Monken's play calling was a factor in some of those early dismissals too.

I'm pointing out that I think people are dramatically overestimating the "I coached Lamar" aspect of career building. If all a new OC does is do what Monken previously did, then it'll be a success, but also not come close to guaranteeing them a HC gig. If they actually win the SB, and its less because of offensive output but instead based on the defense, other teams will take note. Teams aren't really evaluating current coordinators for HC gigs based on W/L record of the team they're on.

If a new OC does what Monken did in his first 2 years - the best offense in the NFL, 2xMVP play from his QB - they'd get a HC job after Y1. If he was 20 or 30 years younger Monken would have been able to pick his job.

He absolutely deservers some of the blame. That being said, would you rather coach Lamar or Shedeur. Atleast you aren't behind the eight ball when coaching Lamar. He gives any offense an advantage. No guarantees, but an advantage. That being said, it's a team sport.

One of the reasons why i wanted kubiak. To make things easy for lamar. I think its gonna be tough to find that with whats left for us. Might be someone out there though
At this point in his career, and ongoing development, I think the biggest influence on Lamar needs to be Lamar. Just focus on playing ball, and playing smart. Every swing shouldn’t be aiming for the fences.

Honestly, maybe we're overthinking the OC bit. It's important but maybe it's time to let Lamar run it like Peyton did.
If you mean run it like the free will to audible then he got that with Todd Monken. He would also have that ability with Kliff Kingbury but it's not majorly common thing for coordinators to give their quarterbacks freedom to audible at will. It would overall depend on Lamar speaking up and making such a request though

I'd rather coach Lamar. But if I'm Webb, I'd rather coach Nix. And if I'm Doyle, I'd probably rather coach Caleb.

Most of these OCs get captured for player development and play calling. I don't think many OC's are going to come here and get much credit for player development with Lamar, given what he's already accomplished. Play calling, yes.

ultimately the playcaller can call whatever they want
if the QB decides he's running a different play, he's running a different play

not always just about what the coordinator gives the QB

That's true, I'd rather get credit for having part in development of a player. That being said I'd also prefer to be call my own plays. Webb, Doyle and Nate would be calling their own plays if they were in Baltimore. If they stay where they are, which are definitely not bad choices, they won't be calling their own plays.
