The Q4 Heroics, the Tackling, and the Season is Over

Man if he don't stfu. Talking about let the chips fly. Almost every time we're in a close game, and the chips flying we lose. For better or worse, a team seems to take on a coaches personality. Ours rarely seems to be able to overcome mistakes and its nothing new. There is always something in crucial moments.

probably because, as you say, he doesnt think anything's in his hands in the first place

i think he's in his "it's all part of god's plan" level of passivity era

Here’s what’s so damning to Orr.

Your defense is built on giving up short shit, and rallying to tackle. At its most base level, what Orr WANTS to do is force the offense to make a ton of plays to get downfield, and then force the tightest of windows when the field shrinks.

If that’s how you call your defense, then how in gods name can you get beat repeatedly by the dump off? In theory there should be no play you’re better suited to defend. You should be absolutely money at not allowing these plays to work, yet we got absolutely abused by it over and over again. Nobody is there to make the tackle, when someone is close by they fail in pursuit, it’s like defenders are surprised that 14 is open again.

Then, when you’re defending the short side of the field, how do you drop 8 in coverage and then leave the middle of the field wide open? Schematically it doesn’t even seem possible, where are your defenders? Why are they there? And how does it happen week after week?

I dont know why yall say it's a forgone conclusion that if they move on from Orr and Monken that John has to go too.

My guess is absolutely John stays and the other two go

I don't think anyone is saying it's a foregone conclusion. More that if you feel the need to fire both coordinators, why not the HC too?
Harbaugh doesn't lose you games because of himself very often. It's happened but it's rare. He keeps a good culture for the most part and his biggest criticism is consistently picking trash coordinators.

I think for sure, Steve keeps John but says we gotta get a legit DC. Wouldn't surprise me one bit either if they say Monk isn't it either.

EDC needs to be better. The coaching staff needs to be better. But I think it's obvious you can improve the coordinators a lot easier than you could improve the HC THIS YEAR.

It could be Monken gets another job offer and Orr is either fired or demoted. But agree, Harbaugh isn't going anywhere

But what does the HC offer outside of his co-ordinators?

Previously the answer would have been about the culture and fighting hard and team spirit but none of that has been in evidence this year. In it's place is just a lot of god talk.

He used to be more proactive with his staff too, but he's allowed Horton, Orr, Warhop to fester for far too long.

His only other responsibility is game management and that has regressed in a big way too.

He might not think he wants out but his actions and inactions are telling a different story.

On that critical 3rd down you had 2 defensive linemen get to Lamar immediately. One was untouched and the other was basically untouched because he literally ran passed 77.

He is just ass and I don't care about the other guard or who might be worse because he's just the other cheek of the same ass.

77 is the worst lineman we have and in key moments he's just there

Let me make it clear. I personally wouldnt bring Harbaugh back.

I just think the Ravens will. I also think the Ravens absolutely can Orr and Monken.

He was like that all year, but this coaching staff refused to make change.

I know impact players are impact players for a reason, but I feel like the biggest death knell for Orr is that he needs Kyle Hamilton in order for anything to work. Can't have a whole system be so reliant on one guy, even if he is a superstar.
We need a true ILB beside Ro. Hamilton is effectively playing that role and a hybrid S, it seems like to me. I know people don't like to hear it but we were better with Queen in there.

this is the ultimate decision of cowardly coaches
pretty sure it's bitten guys like McVay in the ass too

you get what you pay for when you kneel it out for 40+ yard FGs

if you're scared of a fumble, why are you not scared of a FG miss?

cowardice - and often cowardice is punished in the NFL
Yea I mean we could have gotten more for sure, but would have needed to be under 30 for him to make it. Loop sucks

Monken’s offense has gone stale, and sure the O line doesn’t help. But his personal packages make it too predictable and he doesn’t utilize our greatest strength, play action with Henry enough. It’s maddening

I have 0 concerns with a 2nd ILB. Buchanan was on the upswing but unfortunately hurt. But even then, Simpson was functional.

After sleeping on it, I am glad they at least blew it now and got a better draft pick out of it vs. telling this same story in the playoffs
I can't stress enough how much worse the narrative would be for our team and Lamar got wrecked vs Texans and it wasn't remotely his fault but more so our line getting destroyed and playing a top defense of the decade.

Especially with how hot the trade Lamar shit was coming into this week from the media, I'm so glad it's on John and loop instead
