2026 Offseason Thread

I like Bateman as a player, but with a new coach it could be a good idea to do a soft reboot of the team. Get what we can for anyone that is underperforming or seemingly disconnected from the team. Fully remove the complacency that came with Harbaugh.
Bateman was pretty darn good in 2024 and due to injuries along with Lamar having injuries wasn't himself this season. I'd rather keep him on his inexpensive contract this season.

if you take that approach then you're basically putting your team in a position where it's not going to be the best version of itself in 2026

tough route to take given some of the players on the roster... you probably shouldnt have re-signed Andrews and you might as well get rid of Derrick Henry
Henry still performs at a fairly high level when the line actually blocks. He's not really a guy I considered cutting. More so thinking Bateman and Humphrey as prime candidates to move on from.

And yeah, the new contract for Andrews was bad and we should have let him test the market.

actually it's not a bad contract at all. It's essentially a one year contract where we can get out of it at the end of next season. He also only counts 6.9m in cap space this season.

Generally speaking, most people agree that there's a lot of talent on defense but they weren't being put in positions to win.

I don't think Todd is as bad as Orr by any means, but let's not pretend the offense was ever really highly functioning for whatever reason. There's still a good bit of talent there. You'd hope whoever the new OC is unlocks Andrews, Bateman, etc. because we know they're better than what they showed.

pretty sure Harbaugh had some control of the offense

I may be biased because I think Bate is a great route runner and still believe in the guy. But i disagree here. He’s stupid cheap for what he brings and I think he just needs his opportunities. If I was him I would be pissed too, dude can play but doesn’t get the targets. I’m hoping we bring in someone who can draw up some plays to improve his targets.

we need to make Stout a priority with his 50.1 avg this season and 24 punts inside the 20. Also tylan wallace and jake hummel are our only good special teams players. If we don't sign them, Harbaugh will.

Tylan was getting benched on special teams by the end of the year

These are both reasons for keeping Bateman. A new OC will determine his real value aside from his relatively small paycheck cost. He could be a breakout player.

With another big increase in salary cap, where does that put us? Does this help our chances of keeping Linderbaum and others?
