Yeah I have never been on board with this idea that Khalil Mack is too old and falling off.

Khalil Mack was just born different. He’s still a quality edge rusher even at this age.

Man, it's so tough. Feels like he's really benefited from the poor OL play across the league, and it's hard to say he isn't the best OL available by a fairly significant margin. Obviously guarantees matter, but I think I'd pay him $20M per year, which is a slight bump on the current highest paid C. My guess is that he's (understandably) targeting highest paid G money and that's a tough pill to swallow, but he's also probably going to get it if he were to make it to the market. It's partially info and partially my own opinion, but I just don't know that they're going to let him get there.

Basically have to suck it up at this point. He's a key piece of the OL moving forward and who knows how many more years we get out of Stanley. It's not worth it to play chicken here.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I know it's easy to say because it's not my money, but how much does an extra $3M a year really matter over a contract that large?

For me, it comes to: how much of a gap do you (and EDC) see there is between Lindy and Bullock? I'm personally not comfortable with letting him walk. Could Bullock make the center position not miss a step? Sure but I ain't risking THAT position with Lamar. Doesn't help when he was surrounded by buffoonery at the guard position.

i just think it's bad process if you're paying good players elite money
i understand that it's hard to get good OL, i understand that it's not looking like a great center draft
i understand the way the cap and inflation work...

the difference between top C money and top G money is more than 6m/yr

you pay linderbaum 20m/yr that would still make him a top 7 IOL in the league and completely destroy the creed humphrey deal

but the 80/20 rule starts looming really large if you're going to have to pay him 24m/yr - absolutely destroy the top of the C market for a guy who's a really good player but not an elite one - that just feels like bad process to me

franchise tag is 27m fully guaranteed which is even more ridiculous - that 1 year franchise tag would be the 2nd most fully guaranteed money in a C contract in the league straight away

the OL/LB 5th year option and franchise tag values are so dumb and idk how the NFL hasn't fixed it by now

because i think it's going to be more than 3m/yr when it's all said and done

if it was only 3m/yr and he could be signed at 21m/yr - the deal would already be done
but the franchise tag is 9m more than creed humphrey's AAV
and i think he'd be aiming (and some teams would offer him) top IOL money - which would be 6-7m/yr over the creed humphrey deal

3m/yr extra is ok - that's inflation and nearly getting to free agency
6-7m/yr is a decent veteran deal every single year (or multiple guys)

it's not even necessarily about bullock - it's about being confident that for the linderbaum contract if it gets that high, you could find serviceable guard(s) and a 80/20 center if you're not confident in bullock
 
i do think we need to consider that we should not really be looking at C or LB in the 1st round any time soon...
because you lose any benefit of that 5 year contract and you basically just signed a really expensive 2nd round contract

which is ridiculous because if a guy like Sonny Styles is there at 14, we shouldn't be passing on him, but potentially the future contract issues mean you have to

Man I hope they don't let Tyler leave. Still recall the PTSD from enduring the revolving door at center we suffered with for years.
