2026 Offseason Thread

Nah, Marlon's been doing bad things for a while now.

I remember a post of his online, mocking the Raiders' QB, who, coincidentally, had humiliated us a while back, and him in particular, getting roasted the whole game. Or I remember when he was running behind Javonte Williams against Denver and couldn't stop him, etc. Let's ignore the issue of Chase throwing for 500 yards every time he plays against us.
In my opinion, he's an overrated player who's still living off the memory of the "punching ball."
He hasn't been a game-changer as a cornerback for a long time.
He's the face of the Ravens' worst defenses

Aight boys. Have we seen this????

if we're doing guys who didn't spend much time here but still became iconic ravens:
Anquan Boldin, Steve Smith Sr, Eric Weddle

and then i dont understand orlando brown on but not having ben grubbs or kelechi osemele or matt birk
maybe pat ricard deserves to be on there too

Chris McAlister is probably too low

It's obvious they don't watch Ravens games; our cornerback game has been terrible since Jimmy Smith left. Marlon is a little better inside, but that's about it—overrated and overpaid for his level

Jimmy had bad luck with injuries, but when healthy he dominated opposing WRs.
Against Humphrey (and the secondary) everyone has career games.
He should have left with the Giants' clown.

I can’t imagine we’re cutting him just to go into the year with more cap. I think 100% we would have plans for that.

Clowney is almost certainly not happening now. There are some below average centers out there but we could’ve afforded them without cutting Marlon.

We drafted 2 WRs, 2 TEs, drafted a guy whos likely seen as the rb2, we likely have our starting off ball LB corps, safety tandem, outside cbs.

Cutting Marlon saves cap but creates a hole. He’s not the most important piece but one injury could have us in a very tough spot without him.

It’s gotta be a combination of players, we probably sign one of the Cs, a depth corner(which we would be classifying marlon as now), and id guess a DT, maybe we’re still in on DJ reader

marlon was bad last year but this is revisionist nonsense
marlon's been great
genuinely had elite years at CB where he's been (rightfully) acknowledged as one of the top CBs in the league

im not saying that this might not be the end, but to say he hasn't been worth the contract or that he's been overrated is a bit ridiculous to me

He was really good before he lost a step. Last two years he wasn't good on the outside and last year he was shockingly bad inside, too. Definitely nowhere near his current contract.

Well, these are opinions. I think it's ridiculous to say Marlon has been great when, for many years, our cornerback game has been deficient.
The Ravens' recent success has been notable for making any opposing quarterback set a passing yardage record, and any wide receiver set a yardage record as well. Yes, he'll have some interceptions, but that's just demerit. What matters is that your cornerback is rarely attacked, or if it is, that you make them pay, and that doesn't happen, not with Marlon, nor with any Ravens cornerback.
If anyone doesn't see that and only looks at stats, which don't show everything, that's ridiculous.
The Ravens only have three All-Pros: Lamar, Hamilton, and Henry. The rest shouldn't be considered because they aren't that important to change the game.
In my opinion, which isn't ridiculous, but just an opinion you may disagree with

So basically you think since the position isnt important enough to change the game, them making all pro isnt important? If anything the S and RB position has literally been two of least important positions in football let the football peers tell it.. im a big S guy but ive never seen anyone say a CB position isnt important enough to change the game cause thats just simply not true. Tbh, that cant even be an opinion. maybe hump himself isnt good enough or require the skillset to change the game but idk the cb position as a whole not being good enough.. i do feel like majority of cbs lack ball skills and are getting less ints nowadays so there arent many game changers anymore

He’s been known to have up and downs year to year, but he had 2 down years in a row. So yeah he was worth an extension but he may have lost one step too many at this point.

He was never technically sound enough to be able to afford losing a step, so when that day arrived, it arrived hard

To be fair up until last season it was mostly Brandon Stephens and the safeties that were allowing these career bests, 2024 the scheme was an absolute disaster and Marcus Williams was blowing coverages left right and center, and Brandon Stephens was giving up multiple circus catches weekly, and Humphrey was the only corner who was actually giving some coverage and breaking up passes, 2024 he had some frustrating moments that cost us games or leads, but last year was when he really went off the rails.

where's this idea he had 2 down years in a row
he was one of the best CBs in the league in 2024...

Marlon was trash last year. He was trash 3 years ago. He was really weird 2 years ago. 2 years ago he had a ton of turnovers and game winning turnovers, but he also showed some of his garbage play too.
