2026 Offseason Thread

The camp battles that actually matter to watch out for in training camp for me:

1) Starting C: probably Pocic vs Pinter with Pocic going in as the favourite to win
2) LB2: Buchanan coming off the injury vs Simpson with a full offseason - Buchanan should be the favourite as long as the recovery continues to go well
3) WR3: Tez Walker vs the two rookies (Lane and Sarratt) - the hope should be that one of the rookies wins this because Walker winning would feel like a win-by-default
4) TE2/3: Can either of the rookies (Hibner and Cuevas) steal the TE2 spot from Smythe and if not, who wins the TE3 job
5) K: Tyler Loop vs........ literally nothing right now - not sure how that helps him deal with pressure in-season
In what has been a positive off season I haven't liked the noise around Loop. He was flat out bad last season and it culminated in a season ending mistake in a pressure moment. Whenever people have been asked about him it has just been "Tyler is going to be fine" hopefully the Ravens bring in a vet who can give him a serious challenge and not just a body there to be beat. Although I haven't seen which vets are available.

I think wr3 gonna be a mixture of them all maybe.Saratt looks more ready than lane but i guess lane has crazy potential.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Lane is gonna be better right away than we’ve all been expecting, like the story all along has been that sarratt is the more pro ready one, but Lane has a certain confidence that a wr needs and a skillset that can translate even without that level of pro refinement. I wouldn’t be shocked if he produces more than sarratt as a rookie.

At this point i think nnmadi might just be waiting on confirmation to see if its safe for him
to play again or not.
I think that’s what he was waiting on before he got his surgery, and I think at this point he’s just waiting for medical clearance.

i'm still surprised they've brought in literally no one to compete with him
doesnt even have to be a real competition but how are you gonna see how he deals with pressure if he's just handed the job after a season-ending mistake

i agree it will probably be situational and i expect to see all 3 of them a reasonable amount
my hope is that someone elevates themselves to clearly become the primary WR3 in 11 personnel packages

Lane is the one with the physical tools that if they nailed the mindset part of his evaluation has the best chance of becoming something legit in the league

Sarratt has a fairly clear cap on his ceiling (unless he really exceeds expectations based on his athletic tools) which is a WR3 power slot - he just has a clearer path to get there

Lane does have the plus that he's got a clearer schematic path to reps as the "x" early with Bate and Zay being primarily not used isolated

All we’ve heard is “he’s gonna be fine” “he will be a great kicker in this league” I get they aren’t going to drag him in public obviously I just expected as you say a bit more evidence of a serious competition.

with the rookie punter, at least they signed Luke Elzinga to "compete"

Loop was basically handed the job as soon as he was drafted and hasnt been challenged internally with competition since even with missed extra points and some big missed kicks (and being inaccurate on long distance)

I too am surprised there’s been no competition for Loop but I think it’s twofold - they do believe in him still and they also believe that there are no better options. Like most of the young guys, they want Loop taking the reps too. They don’t want to split it with another guy and they aren’t going to burn a roster spot on someone that doesn’t matter. Only reason Elzinga is still here is because he’s a lefty and they want their returners getting that work in until they need the roster spot elsewhere.

i guess my question would be... there's definitely not 91 guys who matter on this roster - surely 1 spot for a kicker is worth the competition value

I don’t think they’re viewing it as a competition at all. Loop is their guy unless he really starts fucking up in camp.

I don’t like that they’ve said they don’t want Loop looking over his shoulder every day with a veteran kicker challenging him and worrying about his job security

Sound like a punk made mark ass bitch to me. Put the pressure on that mf before he cracks in game again
