2026 Offseason Thread

EDGE:
Zion young is cool! When he’s up against the 2s and 3s he’s physically dominating in run defence - the pass rush is definitely looking behind his run defence developmentally (which based on his college tape is not a surprise) - but his strike power is translating already which is a great sign

Tavius Robinson is too good for the backups to deal with

LB:
Seems pretty clear that if we’re keeping 5 LBs then Carl Jones is LB5

Higgins is reading the game really well - so quick to get to the spot and he's smooth
My man Jay

Peebles stole the show on the front, Zion Young had some pressures and would-be sacks and showed some disengage.

I didn’t notice okoye on my first watch, how was he looking?

Young had an unblocked sack and then another win vs 3rd string for a probable sack too
but it was more the lack of rush skill that wasnt coming across yet - not saying he sucked but just that he's clearly further ahead as a rusher

okoye was pretty hard to move but did get out-leveraged once

Keyon Martin is without a doubt making most gameday rosters. He’s gotten all the camp hype and then came in and had a hell of a showing at UMD. He’s gonna be a special teams ace and a key depth corner.

At this rate he might begin to factor into future plans in the db room.

i think he's playing in dime packages
idk that Marlo's got the ability to shift laterally with consistency to play nickel in dime packages anymore which means the 6th DB has to be someone who can play nickel or someone who can come and play dimebacker rather than another outside CB like Awuzie

im not going to get overexcited but it really does seem like Martin's already being groomed for an actual role on this defence right now

I've been a little distracted in recent days so missed the practice yesterday. Curious if you have any thoughts on Gwyn from a talent perspective based on what you've seen?

I keep hearing that Ledford absolutely loves that dude, but if/when Pocic is full go, it feels like he's much more PS than 53. Just seems so small to be an actual G and feels like it's hard to have 3 Cs around without more than on paper versatility, but maybe I'm mistaken on that point.

i never liked Gwyn tbh
limited snaps he's had as a pro were underwhelming at best when i went through the 3 C options before OTAs - Pinter was by far the most exciting and accomplished of the 3 options - and then it turned out Bullock wasn't an option anyway

i think it was a competition between Pinter and Gwyn in name only - think i only ever saw one instance the whole offseason where Gwyn was playing with any 1st teamers and i think the next day Pinter was back with the 1s - and as you say, with Pocic signed, he's only going to drop down the depth chart further now - i had him as making the 53 before the Pocic signing because we literally didnt have another C option - now it's hard to see how he makes it

i think Ledford clearly liked him enough to advocate for him to be signed here - and i actually appreciate even more that he hasnt been handed any special extra opportunities just because of that relationship

i think it's pretty telling that when the coaches wanted to pull Emery Jones out of the 3rd team reps yesterday, that they decided to put Gwyn in there to cover those snaps rather than anyone else

Fuck it, if I had to handicap it right now...

Notes:
- Hardest cut to make was Adisa Isaac because I think there's still something there, but he's got to show it. Probably my 54th player right now so could easily slide on
- Not sure there's a move to make at CB to get under 7, even though Rivers and Kone are probably in street clothes every week without injuries factoring
- Planning for some veteran off-roster depth with guys like K'Von Wallace, Carl Jones, and Chris Moore, with all of them probably getting some elevations/becoming the first options for the 53 as space opens
- I actually think all of the OL have some potential so I have them stacking pretty heavily there on the PS in lieu of keeping 10 on the 53 man roster
- DL is certainly the deepest, and I gave the edge to Peebles for the differing skillset. Wouldn't be surprised if it's Okoye or Benny though
- I genuinely think there are only a handful of spots at the end of the roster, and only a handful of guys just off that actually have a real shot. It's a lot of PS at best guys at the back end of the roster if you ask me

i see it basically the same

on DL, I think Peebles looks pretty safe to me based on his usage and order of entry but there's guys with talent at that position who will miss out on the 53 for sure

biggest questions for me:
Adisa Isaac - like you said, he's got a lot more talent than guys you'd normally cut after only 2 years but his inability to stay healthy and compete is a huge issue - last season could have been a huge opportunity for him with all the pass rush issues and he just wasnt available to do anything at all - and for that reason i've got him missing out, but i also felt like he was at risk last offseason too and then he came into preseason and showed out only to get injured again - he could very quickly save himself

DB11 - I think based on talent and skill, you should be carrying 7 CBs and 4 S but with S3 basically being a starter on this defence and S4 being primarily a special teams player, i think the safety depth might mean you need to carry an extra guy who you actually have to activate on gamedays - if K'Von Wallace is on the first half special teams units in preseason, i think he'd be my favourite for DB11 and it probably would mean that Kone misses out and you hope he makes it to the P/S

LB5? - with Buchanan's injury, 4 LBs feels light but i guess there's no harm in platooning replacements from the P/S, especially if one of the rookies proves to be a half-decent special teamer

My next guys up who just miss out on the 53:
Adisa Isaac
DB12 (Bilhal Kone or K'Von Wallace, whoever didn't make the 53)
Carl Jones Jr
Rayshaun Benny/CJ Okoye
Chris Moore (assuming he's still good on special teams)

guys im sad are missing out on opportunities to make the roster because of numbers games at deep positions:
DL Rayshaun Benny, CJ Okoye, David Olajiga
TE Lucas Scott
OL (any of the 5 guys on the bubble) - Jovaughn Gwyn, Evan Beertsen, Corey Bullock, Gerad Lichtenhan, Diego Pounds

On K'Von Wallace specifically, I just feel like he's a guy you can easily handshake and keep on the PS as S4 and a weekly call up until a roster spot opens. Spent pretty much the entirety of the 2025 season on a couple of different PSs so I don't think he's in high demand around the league. And if he is, it's not hard to find someone similar off the scrap heap.

OL:

Vinson looks the part in the run game - had a whiff and a couple of losses in the passing game

Despite what EDC said in the call with Cordell Woodland a few weeks ago, Jones is not playing OT at all - he’s exclusively playing RG

Some positive reps from Pounds - and especially when he stepped up to play with the 2nd team (with Stanley rested and Vinson playing with the 1s) - he’s showcasing talent beyond what you’d typically expect from a udfa tackle - with Jones playing exclusively RG so far, there’s definitely a chance for a 4th pure OT on the 53 (and maybe 10 OL overall although I’d assume it will be 9) - maybe that’s Adeniji but Lichtenhan and Pounds could have a chance with good camps

Pocic has not ramped up yet so hasn’t taken part in any team drills or full OL drills yet afaik so it’s hard to say there’s a competition at centre right now - he’ll need to get going soon to start building some chemistry if they want this to work - the longer he takes to get in there, the more it will start to feel like Pinter should be the starter

Right now he’s not on the hypothetical OL depth charts so I haven't included him yet but you'd assume he would all the Cs would drop down and Gwyn/Dawkins would become the 3rd team RG

The below depth chart is based on observations, not projections:

What is the word on Dawkins?

What is the word on Dawkins?

he looks bad lol

we've got 15 OL on the roster right now
i've got 6 OL locks and an additional 3 OL I'd describe as nearly locks

of the remaining 6 OL on the roster, I'd say 5 have a chance at the roster based on merit/talent and the one guy who doesn't is Dawkins...

even at the stadium practice - can't remember which DL it was (maybe Olajiga) basically destroyed him on one rep where i think iirc he ended up on the floor almost instantly

RIP to the "Dawkins for starting C because he played on the same OL as Vega" dreamers
