i think it's testament to how little we thought they could convert that we wanted the field position there + slight possibility that the rams would go for it on 4th and short(ish) albeit the rams are the most punt-heavy on 4th down team in the league so who knows

I think it was about sending a message. They do not deserve that many yards on 3rd and long.
