Got a text this morning that Jones was their hope at C. Did not expect him to go that early and they weren’t trading all that it would have taken to go and get him.

In round 3, they were hoping Delp but had Lane on the same playing field so they were cool riding it out. They’ve still got a lot of TEs they like on the board

i knew it was delp

I'm wondering who we get here and if we trade up to get them. C position is still good but there's concerns. I would definitely go up and get Hecht to get "your guy" (or whoever that is) if there is a plan for a specific guy.

I feel like this has been the problem with us.

If we wanted Delp or Jones, I think you need to gauge the room and know who will go where. I say that because I could see the TE run coming, and if I saw it then so did our FO. I think we should be more aggressive there and go up and get guys. Maybe we were and it didn't pan out, but I doubt it.

Jones was a bit of a surprise (kinda) and I'm less speaking about him as I am about Delp, who was within trade range.

as @Simba said though, they clearly had a similar grade on Lane, hence why they werent aggressive

good players have been falling to the ravens - the only reason we're talking about shoulda/woulda with a trade up is because we as fans dont rate Lane that highly - but they clearly did given the talent still available (even now)

The WR outlook through the rest of the draft is worse than the TE outlook, in my opinion. If they had similar grades like I was told, I understand why they didn't burn a pick to fill a position they felt better about filling later.

It's 100% that we dont rate Lane the same as they do

100% on this

only WR i really like remaining (outside of day 3 pet cats) is Bryce Lance

whereas there's still a bunch of TEs i like

No doubt that's true. I haven't seen it really fail us yet this draft, to be fair. It's more of a holdover observation from the past. I'm watching to see if we get any more aggressive today than in years past.

Outside of the 3rd round, I think we've done excellent this draft. I'm bummed on Jones but I don't think we could've worked a trade to go that far to get him. I think 2nd round is a bit high, but this draft is kinda different so it's not bad. That one is more of a shame. And yes, I don't rate Lane as high as Delp, but maybe I'll be proven wrong. I do think they both bring the same element to the offense.

Yup, and that checks out to me. I think we could get an impact TE in the 7th round, for example, or even undrafted, this year. That's true of other years but this year more than others.

don't get me wrong, i'm not a fan of the pick, but it's clearly not a panic pick

I am definitely one that thinks there are times we could have and should have been more aggressive, but not this year (so far at least). They had a much higher grade on Zion Young than where they picked him. It's been one pick where the world is falling because we didn't trade up, but I don't know that there was anyone to trade up for that was actually reasonable outside of Delp. And it doesn't really matter because the grades were virtually the same.

I don't think it was. I think it was as it's been said: "Oh, that sucks, we wanted Delp. Well, Lane is there and we really like him so let's go get him then." Now, I do think we targeted Jones as the 3rd round pick, but I am guessing at WR/TE, it was a toss-up.
