Earl definitely does deserve a thread. His performance early in the year wasn’t even bad, just lackluster, and I fully expected it. Earl has played a deep third most of his career and it’s very different here, but earl is a football player through and through, he’s not a “free” safety, he’s just a great football player in general and I knew he would become a standout player once he adapted and adjusted.

He’s done VERY well in this role too, he’s making a lot of plays in close coverage and is doing well in the box, his contain on Watson set the tone for the game because if earl didn’t contain so brilliantly he had an outlet and he doesn’t fumble.

i think the perception early on about him not being great was partly because we never really saw him and his name was rarely called because he was taking away a portion of the field and qbs and offences were avoiding him to great effect because he weaknesses elsewhere - with the reinforcements in our secondary now (and a slight adjustment in earl's role on defence) it's now much harder to avoid earl so he's more involved - obviously he's better now than early but i think that's partly why the perception of him having a disappointing start is there

Didn’t he have his fair share of breakdowns in assignments the first month or so?

the secondary as a whole had some major issues but im not sure how much of that i put on thomas
I think a lot of the coverage breakdown happened in the middle of the field and was on the ILBs and Jefferson. Once we got Bynes and Fort in there with Clark, everything seemed to get sured up for the most part.

It's hard to blame him when he's still learning and adjusting to our defense also there was a lot of bad or no communication going on, thankfully Chuck Clark has been able to help us in that department from what I've been reading.
