Around the NFL: News and Rumors

Apparently, if a player is placed on IR without a new injury, there is a rule the team should release the player. Rodgers was IR'd and now teams are pissed. If I'm him, I'd push this and try to end up in Jax. That team with him at qb would be SCARY. Nothing will happen, but just interesting.
He’s not completely healed.

If that rule is real then it’s maybe the least sensical rule in the nfl (which is difficult to do what with the fumble-touchback rule and the catch rule being broken)

The catch rule should be pretty self explanatory. In the process of making the catch you have to complete the catch. Stumbling and bumbling a couple steps is not a true football move ( you're still considered to be in the process of catching) and if you hit the ground and the ball moves its not a catch. The fumble/touchback rule I personally like. You gotta hold on to the damn ball and if it goes into the endzone and out I think they do right by calling it a touchback for the defense. The offensive player screwed up. As long as the ball goes out of bounds in the field of play it stays offensive ball cuz you can properly spot it but if it goes in the endzone and out where you gonna spot the ball. At the 1" line?

You spot it where the fumble occurred like everywhere else on the field... it just seems to me like an unearned turnover where everywhere else on the field the defence has to do something well to turn the ball over a fumble touchback can happen without anyone on the defence touching the ball...

And the catch rule is nebulous and just doesn’t look right at times - like we all know what the rule means but I think the rule itself is wrong

The catch rule is simple. Those of you who are playing in the match this afternoon move your clothes down on to the lower peg immediately after lunch before you write your letter home, if you're not getting your hair cut, unless you've got a younger brother who is going out this weekend as the guest of another boy, in which case collect his note before lunch, put it in your letter after you've had your hair cut, and make sure he moves your clothes down onto the lower peg for you.

I read earlier that he could be claimed on waivers if he has to be cut and that would be the Browns. No idea how true it is.

Something tells me they'll get away with it which will set a precedent that will enable all of the other teams to abuse the IR rules.

Could not have said it better myself

Apparently Earl Thomas has an exit plan out of Seattle and wants to play for Dallas.

"I've always been a Cowboys fan growing up. The biggest thing when I said 'come get me,' I didn't literally mean, 'come get me,' you know," Thomas explained to reporters. "I'm still in the prime of my career, I still want to be here. But when Seattle kicks me to the curb, please, the Cowboys, come get me. You know? This is the place where I want to be when they kick me to the curb. So that's what I meant by. People take me too serious. That's just who I am."

Remember the report earlier about Darnold returning to USC to avoid the Browns? Now it's Josh Rosen's turn and there is a new report saying he may return to UCLA in order to avoid the Browns. He also prefers being picked by the Giants.

Silly qbs... They should all conference together and just go pro. The Browns will be right back at the top spot next year as well. They're fighting a losing battle. If the all go at once, and make a pact, at least 1 will get the opportunity to dodge Cleveland. One's going to have to bite the bullet.

Maybe this is the economics buff in me talking, but that sounds like the ultimate prisoner's dilemma. :p

NFL releases Week 17 NFL Schedule, includes no Sunday Night Football Game.

Moves to 4:25pm:

- Bills vs Dolphins
-Jaguars vs Titans
- Ravens vs Bengals
- Panthers vs Falcons
- Bucs vs Saints

It’s a landmark week 17 schedule:

No Sunday night game and all relevant games get played concurrently - the afc byes and home field get sorted at 1 pm and the afc wildcard race is all happening at 4:25 pm

I actually think the nfl has done a good thing - it makes sense not to give teams a competitive advantage over their direct competitors

So ravens, bills, chargers, titans all play at the same time

Steelers and pats play at the same time

Saints, rams, falcons, panthers and Seahawks all play at the same time

Vikings and eagles play at the same time

It works for the top of the draft too: giants, colts, Texans and bears all play at the same time too

I wail on the nfl a lot but I’ll give them credit for how they’ve reorganised the schedule for week 17
