I don't understand how he was a official for so long. He was terrible at his job for years, wish the NFL would start holding refs accpuntable if they miss big calls or throw flags when there shouldn't have been a flag.

I agree, he’s been awful for years. Agree, they should be held accountable in some way shape or form.

they treat ref groups the same as the banks treated shitty mortgages - if they sucked they would split them up and repackage the shit ones together and sell them as diversified and a better group again when in fact all they were doing was packaging shitty officials with other shitty officials and making even worse groups...

until the nfl makes every play and penalty reviewable or until they make every single nfl official full-time then the game and its officiating wont be treated seriously or with respect - there's no transparency either because the ref mics turn on and off

in rugby the crowd can here everything the ref and assistant refs and video refs say the whole way through the game both how they talk to the players and how they interact with each other and the video - and you know what not only do the analysts and fans treat them with more respect but the players do too...

i think ultimately the best way to improve officiating and improve the way players interact with officials in all sports is to mic up the refs...

I would LOVE to see a presser with the reff's after each game.

Regarding Gruden going to the raiders...he is landing in a soft spot. There is some talent there and Carr's injury carried into this year, crashed his QBR and the raiders regressed. Gruden gets to come back to his site of original success. Now my prediction....

Never in the history of the NFL has such a mediogre coach been more popularly acclaimed as a franchise savior...(perhaps outside of harball)...and be so fated to utter disaster.

I get that they need a big splash hire to get people to buy tickets in Vegas when they move, but my goodness that contract. I highly doubt he sees the full 10 years.
