Around the NFL: News and Rumors

Steelers are looking to give Big Ben an extension as Ben is in his final year of his contract that brings a $23.2M cap hit to the Steelers in 2019. If they would trade AB, the Steelers would need the cap room in order to absorb the $21.12M in dead money they would accumulate by trading him. They are hoping to have a deal done by the new league year.

It's nice to see a couple of Ravens fans comment on this situation.

Who's ready for more Steelers drama? According to this Yahoo! Sports article, former NFL WR James Jones talked to a couple of people in the organization and said the following:

“I have talked to a couple people in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ organization and they told me this has been lingering on,” Jones said. “I’ve been told in meetings [Roethlisberger] would take shots at AB. Like, ‘I don’t got to throw you the ball,’ and things like that. Wednesday in practice, I heard he ran the wrong route, Big Ben threw the ball on the ground, said, ‘Get him out of here. Get somebody else in there,’ and that’s when AB was at his boiling point and that’s when he went off.”

Jones also implied that Brown doesn’t respect his quarterback enough to discuss their issues face to face.

Which leads me to this. Today, Mort stated the Steelers are “likely to trade Brown by March.”

i mean tbf if this is how Ben treats him all the time im not surprised that AB blows up all the time - he's a generational receiver with historic statistics and level of play and he's being constantly belittled lol - i think most people would lose their top on a consistent basis with Big Ben doing that shit

We also don’t really know what’s going on behind the seasons for him to belittle AB.

Generational receiver is a bit much but ok

Bruce Arians seems to be the favorite to take over the Head Coaching vacancy in Tampa. While the Bucs have interviewed other candidates, Arians knows Bucs GM Jason Licht and Winston attended Bruce's football camp when he was a kid.

Update, several sources saying that a deal is almost done and that Bruce Arians will be named the Buccaneers Head Coach as soon as tomorrow. Seems also this is where Todd Bowles resurfaces as he would rejoin Bruce in Tampa as their DC, which would be interesting since they have always run a 4-3 compared to Bowles running a 3-4.

Carroll: No recent talks with FA Earl Thomas

Coach Pete Carroll admitted Monday he has not spoken to impending free agent Earl Thomas (broken leg) recently.

Despite breaking his leg last Week 4, Thomas is on track to become one of the highest-paid safeties in league history when he reaches the open market. Carroll called Thomas a "great player," but was noncommittal on the Seahawks' chances of re-signing him. We fully expect Thomas to make it to free agency.
