Around the NFL: News and Rumors

With G Scherff and tackles Williams and Moses all injured and questionable vs Dallas, Redskins patch up the line by signing FA Orlando Franklin and Arie Kouandjio off our PS.
Not going to be enough, I think.

Well arie kouandjio is familiar with Callahans power scheme, since he was a skin the last couple years. Shall be interesting, but I don’t see them beating the cowboys with all the injuries.

Hopkins missed practice due to a personal day, but those were an awful choice of words that shouldn’t come out of anyone’s mouth let alone an owner.

Apparently Texans players are planning a protest before the game. Schefter says options include kneeling, peeling off the Texans sticker from their helmet, raising fists or staying in the locker room during the anthem.

See, peeling off the Texans sticker doesn't make sense if they're still playing the game IMO.

Who knows, but doesn't that phrase get tossed around by NFL analysts and fans every time they talk about a coach who has lost the locker room and the "inmates are running the asylum" phrase gets used to describe it. Here's an article from 2013 from CNN.com talking about the Richie Incognito/Jonathon Martin situation using that phrase as a way to say Joe Philbin was letting the "inmates run the asylum".

Quote from Trevor Pryce:

"To some extent, the inmates run the asylum," Trevor Pryce, a defensive end who spent 14 years in the NFL, told the Times. "The coaches have a lot of other things to deal with."

Where were the Texans players' outrage at Pryce for using that phrase back then???

A lot has to do with the media in general. The powers that be know exactly what they're doing when it comes to this.

A lot can change between now and Week 17 but right now Ian Rapoport is reporting Head Coach Hue Jackson is safe for now despite his 1-22 record. Changes are expected to happen but for right now, it doesn't involve Hue Jackson. That tells me their analytics department may be gone after this season.

But go ahead and tell me that the Browns are "heading in the right direction" (this isn't aimed at you per se).

I know right... when a team is rebuilding under a new coach the biggest thing is progress over record. Yes, your going to take losses and have losing seasons but throughout the losing seasons what progress was made to say that this guy is the coach to turn things around? Look at the Jets, everyone predicted them to be 0-16, Todd Bowles to be fired but not only are they overachieving but you see the progress being made under Bowles. When I look at Cleveland, I see 0 progress under Hue.

There's a saying that states "there's a time and places for everything". Maybe what Trevor Pryce or other said was more acceptable at that time but when there's a NFL owner in a meeting with other NFl owners, players and others stating ""we can't have the inmates running the prison" when the topic at hand was about the protest that's been demostrated consistently this year by NFl players is not a good way to start things off in the right direction. This is same protest that's suppose to represent the fight for equality for minorities in The United States. I could be wrong but The Houston Texans owner is atleast 70 years or older which means he should know what segregation and more was like back in the day for African Americans. It doesn't help that he isn't a so called minority himself and overall he should have known better to not say what he said. 70 percent of players in The NFl according to my knowledge is considered to be African American. For a NFl owner to make such statement without being highly considerate of the topic that was being discuss which was minority issue along with keeping mind that 70 percent of players in The NFl are black is not smart. The issue with Joe Philbin and The Dolphins was totally different topic than what's been going on recently.

Agreed. But how many years have I heard that the Browns could be dangerous in a few seasons? Quite some time now. Until I see competence from the top, I will NEVER take them seriously as contenders.

Exactly - progress is all fine and good but it’s very hollow if your “progress” encompasses a period in which your team goes a collective 2-36 (or something similar) - they are 1-23 under Hue Jackson - most bad teams can luck into a couple wins a year so what the hell are the browns getting so wrong despite all the promising talent and signs of improvement?

Other from horrible coaching, I honestly don't know the answer to that question.
