or a team picks him up on waivers and i think takes on the rest of that contract - i think that's how this works but ill admit ive never seen that designation before so im not 100% on it

He is going on waivers but I reckon team that picks him up negotiates a contract. There shouldn't be anything left from his Packers contract to pick up.
 
Remember when Al Davis had his feud with former Commissioner Pete Rozell? Get ready for Jerry Jones vs Roger Goodell!

Jerry Jones is trying to stop Goodell's new 5 year contract from happening. Jones hired lawyer David Boies to fight the contract. Jones wants Goodell's new contracts to have more incentives and less guarantees. He also believes Goodell lied im the Ezekiel Elliott situation.

Speaking of battles relating to the NFC East, it seems that Giants HC Ben McAdoo has beyond lost the team. In the link below, there's a quote that just stands out:

"He's got us going 80 percent on Saturdays before we get on a plane to play a game. It's wild. Changed our off day. He's dishing out fines like crazy. Suspended two of our stars when we need them the most. Throws us under the bus all the time. He's ran us into the ground and people wonder why we've been getting got."

I thought once you had a certain amount of years in the NFL, you no longer went to waivers?

he lost the team weeks ago
but he was brought in to make their offence stay as good as 2014/15 and its got worse - they have the least variation in personnel/scheme/lineup ive seen in the nfl despite some stars/potential stars - at least the ravens use different formations (just none of them work) but the giants are the most predictable offence in the league with a declining eli manning - and most importantly of all mcadoo has lost the support of his defence which is the most important unit on his team - last year they singlehandedly got the giants to the playoffs but some of their players have been left out to dry on that end and the way they are airing their dirty laundry in public is just bad man management (that works for some players but not for most yet it seems to be mcadoo's go to calling card for punishment - followed by an internal suspension and fine)

i imagine a contender might - i doubt his cap hit will be that big because the contract wasnt that big to start with - so unless he retires this week i expect him to play out the year with a team he believes has a chance - that or he might see if he can play with his brother in seattle for one last ride

Must be nice to get a job because he was the OC for the Packers. Makes me wonder how "effective" was he or did he benefit from the overall greatness of A-Rod (same way I feel about McCarthy, but I digress)?
I remember a few weeks ago, when NYG played in Denver, SSS called him out saying the play-calling sucks. There was another quote I saw where the anonymous player basically said that guys don't even care any more. I mean, how much proof does their FO need? The word shocked would be a huge understatement if he remains with the Giants after Black Monday.

idk if there's anyone in house who could take over (spagnolo maybe but then they'd need a new defensive coordinator which is never a great idea midseason) but id still be surprised if mcadoo even makes it to black monday tbh

To be fair, Jerry Reese's job as GM could be over as well and a full house cleaning for the G-Men could take place in 2018. I fully expect Eli to finish his career much like Peyton did, in another jersey. Report is ownership has told scouts to go heavy on scouting the quarterbacks in the 2018 draft so that tells me they are ready to start over and this could be the Giants house cleaning to start a new era much like when Indy cut ties with a lot of long time players to start fresh in 2012.

Again, coaching has to be the most important thing in the NFL when it comes to the success of the team. 2 years removed from Tom Coughlin and the Giants are a mess, meanwhile in year one of the Coughlin era in Jacksonville, Tom Coughlin already instilled on the team the same toughness that helped lead him to 2 Super Bowl victories over the Patriots in New York. Their play shows it, and Coughlin is going to make the Jaguars a new contender in the AFC to deal with from this point on.

Yeah, he’s beyond gone, but the real problem is Reese. He needs to be fired as well.
