Around the NFL: News and Rumors

yeah kyle shanahan has always expressed his admiration for jimmy g which is part of the reason why the trade for him made a lot of sense
and the reason i dont think the franchise scenario could happen on both sides is because the 9ers can leverage it to get a better deal out of the redskins because of how ridiculous the tag price is on kirk cousins next year vs on garropolo - as soon as the tag gets put on cousins, his agent wont be interested in working out a long term deal because he gets the boon of being the agent of the first guy in nfl history to earn $30 mill in a year (and its kirk cousins not aaron rodgers) and kirk cousins gets the boon of earning $30m in one single year with no backloaded money or anything - the actual mode of franchising the players to be traded involves making them an unattractive player to trade for and also disincentivises either player actually signing a long term contract...

John Lynch has said Jimmy G is the 49ers future, and considering they gave up a high second round pick for him, I don't see them getting Cousins. I think the 49ers are content on riding out the year with CJ Bethard at QB, then give Jimmy a highly talented RB in Barkley with the their first round pick to set up the offense. Or they could try to trade down with whoever wants to jump the Giants for whichever QB ends up going after Rosen to regain a second round pick they loss in the Jimmy G trade.

To me, as I said earlier the Broncos for one if Elway once again wants to keep throwing big money at a quarterback in Free Agency. Jacksonville will be a suitor for Cousins, and I think the likely destination for Cousins once it's all set and done.

Neither one of us think it will happen. It’s just an interesting useless conversation.

i cant see how the 49ers dont give jimmy g a start towards the end of the year just to make sure he is what they think he is - i feel like if they had lost to the giants then jimmy g would be starting this week against the seahawks

you're right though that they are going to make an absolute killing this draft - i see a future 1st and numerous other picks in their future

my one problem with jacksonville going after cousins is that im not sure theyve got a huge amount of projected cap space available next year - broncos definitely make the most sense to me but cleveland has the cap room so who knows - it will certainly be an entertaining offseason

Well this is interesting. Raiders Linebackers Bruce Irvin and Khalil Mack both missed practice one day after the firing of their defensive coordinator. The team says they were given "rest days" but before this Bruce Irvin didn't miss a practice all season. Khalil Mack's only missed practice was Sept 6th. Oh and Bruce Irvin's response on Twitter: "BULLSHIT"

Hmmmmm.... why would they be mad over a defensive coordinator who's defense ranked 26th in the NFL being fired? They were ranked 26th, they should be happy for a change to improve and get better. That's very interesting.

Oh yeah, they're pissed. Seems that this team is spiraling downwards. A lot of them are calling for the firing of JDR, but I don't see it happening simply because they made the playoffs last season and would've beaten the Texans with a healthy Derek Carr.

But then again, a lot of them are saying he lost the locker room. Once that happens, a HC becomes useless. Might as well let him go if that's the case.

i think i mentioned this in the week 12 other teams thread but essentially it feels to me that ken norton was scapegoated despite the fact that jack del rio's hands were all over that defence and scheme - id imagine that's the root of the problem - they've fired the guy who maybe could have improved the defence if given sole responsibility (or maybe not) but now they are essentially standing pat

Sounds like the Raiders to shoot themselves in the foot after they had a glimmer of hope last season.

maybe - but this week they are also facing the other team that scapegoated a coordinator to save someone higher up in the organisation - vance joseph and john elway saving their skins by firing mike mccoy and elevating bill musgrave whos been working with paxton lynch

I just heard on the nfl network that mark Ingram would become a free agent if he makes AP all pro. This is something that would automatically happen, he doesn’t have to trigger anything.

Oh wow what a weird ass contract if that’s true - at the moment he hasn’t got much competition tbh outside of lev bell and he’s probably been better than leveon

Speaking of the Giants, the Week 14 game between the Cowboys and Giants just got flexed to the 1PM slot. Taking its place? Seahawks @ Jaguars at 4:25PM on FOX. Other than that, no other changes for Week 14.

This will be the first 1PM game between the Cowboys & Giants since 2005. Good lord that's ridiculous. Just glad we didn't get flexed off Sunday Night for either Vikings/Panthers or Rams vs Eagles.

Eli Manning has been benched in favor of ::drum roll:: Geno Smith. Giants are a mess. Looks like the Manning era may be over.
