Around the NFL: News and Rumors

Eli will be a Jaguar next year that's for sure. Reunite with Tom Coughlin and try to do for Jacksonville what Peyton did for Denver.
And likely succeed. If he goes to Jax all they need is an oline and boom. Amazing what happens when you surround a struggling QB with a line, a running game, AND a WR.... I'd tell the Giants to take notes but we've given Flacco none of those things

It's sad though that he got benched for Geno Smith of all people. The least they could have done was start Davis Webb and see what the kid has in any potential. They are now guaranteed to draft whomever the Browns don't take, and if the 49ers hold at the second overall pick, it will be a race to jump ahead of the Giants to grab a QB.

Somewhere in New England, Tom Brady is celebrating Eli's benching. Brady better win the Super Bowl this year because if Eli comes to the AFC and signs with the Jaguars, Brady is in trouble.

Eli's Cap hit is $19M next season so that about guarantees him being released since nobody would trade for him at that number. Looks like he'll have his selection of teams like Peyton did but the familiarity with Coughlin will win out.

haha the great thing is they are only 1 win behind the colts/bears/broncos all of whom could easily lose out and its not that far fetched to see the giants falling into a win

I was on the Jaguars forums to see what their saying and some are saying he has regressed but honestly it's more so the organization than Eli.

i will say this - eli has not been a good qb for 2 years now - yes the giants fo has done him bad and the coaching has been abysmal but eli has looked a shell of himself (and maybe that's just because ben mcadoo is a bum coz it started after coughlin left) and has not been throwing well - last year he held back their offence - it was unimaginative scheme wise but he also just wasnt making good reads or throws and that has continued - so while its absolutely a trash move by the organisation to bench him for geno at this point in time it's not like eli has been playing well - that said mcadoo has been trying to scapegoat eli for weeks now

Yup, he hasn't played well lately but the entire team is in shambles. No offense due to injuries, no backfield due to bad drafting, no defense due to players giving up on coach. At least let him play out few games he has left. What the fuck are they going to accomplish with a bum like Geno? They certainly won't discover they have a QB of the future.

and jimmy g is confirmed as the starter for week 13 - can he have a whole game as successful as the garbage time drive in relief?

Realistically, what do you gain by benching Eli? One of NY's most beloved players and one of the NFL's great iron men. What do you get with Geno Smith? You can't finish better than 7-9 and with a loss this week, the Giants are eliminated from playoff contention. Why bench Eli?

I think the 49ers are going to win some games with Jimmy G as the starter looking at their schedule. He's going show flashes of potential for next season but in hindsight it could cost them Barkley or even the chance of trading back with a team looking to jump the Giants for a quarterback.

Giants organization is a mess, when Coughlin left it was the beginning of the downfall for the G-Men. Coughlin is in Jacksonville and in his first season in charge they are a playoff team? I think we all know Eli is destined for Jacksonville next year but man the AFC is going to get way more tougher if Eli joins the Jaguars.
