Around the NFL: News and Rumors

And we're bitching and moaning in January 3 years straight.

so i just did some more maths and there were 4 teams in the playoffs in 2015 who havent been back since...

that means that 24 teams (out of 32) have been to the playoffs since we were last in the playoffs...

that means we are in a small class of 8 teams... here they are:

Ravens
Browns
Chargers
Colts
49ers
Bears
Bucs
Jets

that list of teams makes me uncomfortable - the only solace i have is that the chargers (like us) have also been very injured but every other team on that list has been either a trainwreck or rebuilding which says a lot tbh

Exactly.
But people will still support Harbaugh and his choices, our draft strategies, status quo everywhere, excuses for half empty stadium for the deciding game, even though we are clearly bad.

i still support harbs as a head coach but im starting to be a little worried - we arent a bad team but we are starting to frustratingly get a reputation of being nearly-men

9-7 is bad? One game out of the playoffs is bad?

I'm all for Harbaugh to still be here through 2018 because I know if we miss 4 years in a row then I know we'll have a new Head Coach in 2019. It just gets tiring where we lose games we shouldn't and at the end of the year, boom we are 1 game out of the playoffs instead of in the playoffs. If we hold on to beat the Bears, we don't have to worry about Week 17, we get the 5th seed at 10-6 locked before then. 2016, we finished 8-8 but easily could have been 10-6 but we lost games we shouldn't have lost. That's the worst trend under Harbaugh, we keep losing games we shouldn't that bites us in the end.

Hopefully if Pagano comes back we can fix our defensive 4th quarter issues with Pees' give up in the 4th quarter playbook gone.

Yep - you answered your own question. We keep losing games we shouldn't. Year after year. That's why we are bad.

I get the thinking behind this but I remember last year we said we wouldn't tolerate missing the play-offs for three years in a row and the year before that it was two years, and next year it'll be five years. We've always come close and given him the benefit of the doubt because of some exogenous circumstance, which isn't incorrect but there does come a point where you have to draw a line before you end up with the next Jeff Fisher managing a treadmill roster that gets the 16th pick every year. We seem to draw the line every year and then change said line the next year.

The Saints haven't make the playoffs since 2013 before now. That's about 3 years missing the playoffs with records such as 7-9 in 2014, 7-9 in 2015, and 7-9 in 2016. That's back to back to back losing seasons but The Saints owner stood by Sean Payton and only was willing to give him up unless a team traded for him. In my opinion that's owner realizing what he has in his head coach and right now it's paying off. Just like The Ravens offense has been the topic for The Ravens team for the past 3 years it was The Saints defense that has been the topic and I believe there defense is playing better than in years past.

There's never a excuse to miss the playoffs and every owner should want his team to do so but I can't knock The Ravens owners for believing in John Harbaugh like The Saints owner believe in Sean Payton. We talk about how we going through it but imagine how The Saints fans felt going 7-9 to back to back with no improvement in sight.

This for me is the make or break season - you can argue away the last 3 seasons (if you really try) with bad luck/injuries etc and coaching instability among other things but harbs is keeping virtually the same coaching staff, will have most players back healthy etc - a 4th year without the playoffs would indicate he had to go and it’s hard to see how coaches could continue to appease the locker room if the team sucks again

That being said Jeff Fisher was fired and the players still loved him after all those years...
