Around the NFL: News and Rumors

Coming soon to a Movie Theater near you....... Rob Gronkowski stars in.... Football Goes Hollywood.

Ok that is a fake movie but what is not fake is the fact Gronk is considering retiring from the NFL, moving to Hollywood and beginning an acting career.

Potentially better pay, easier on the body. Sounds like a good plan to me.
( read: Whatever gets him off the field when we play them again )

You might be on to something and this might be the reason McDaniels deserted them in the 12th hour. Report now is that doctors remain concerned about Andrew Luck and there is a possibility of him requiring even more surgery.

Should the Colts consider drafting a QB at least in the second or third round at this point? Or just tank again for whoever the top QB is in 2019?
Put an o-line around Brisset and they might have something.

I honestly enjoy watching Gronk play too much to want him to retire. It’s not often we get to watch someone this dominant.

^^I'll believe it when I see it. He's on the right track with this Big Ben drama queen act on steroids.

i believe it genuinely with gronk though - his body takes far more of a beating on every snap than big ben and he's had a lot of concussions now - unlike big ben im not sure this is a publicity stunt but more of a knee-jerk reaction to the end of the season

Jimmy g: 5 years 137.5 mill - highest paid player in nfl history by yearly average (don’t know guaranteed money yet) - slightly more money than I was expecting but you pay whatever you have to in order to keep your franchise qb and there’s no way this lingers as a tiresome offseason storyline - great job by both sides to get it done this early in the offseason

Have been a big fan of what Garoppolo could do even before the trade. But you'd at least think that they'd get a slight discount in the QB market. Highest paid player in football is bananas.

Gotta see the structure of the contract. If they were smart, it's front loaded. Everyone say's they can't believe it, but he had film before, be it a little and won every game he started for them. Remember when everyone said "that's the going rate for a franchise guy?" Well, here we are. He landed in a great spot, with a great offensive mind.

Cousins is now 100% commanding 30M per year and Packers and Falcons are now probably rushing to get the deal done

I think that’s part of why this deal is big and early - because Cousins resets the market so highest paid player in football isn’t really that bad of a moniker if it saves them 2.5 mill per year...

Also interested to see the guaranteed money when it comes out

I have no problems with them giving him that money and I have no problem with his side holding out for that money either

He’s the most exciting young qb in football I think - along with wentz - with the ability to run a 2/1 minute drill of unreal efficiency despite only being in the system in san Francisco for a month or whatever it was...

Outside of what he did as a 49ers starter I think all you have to do is look at Brady’s 4 week suspension and look at garropolo in relief and notice how he was the best player on the field (from either team) as the backup qb

Yep. He is obviously good player but to reset the market on such a short sample is crazy.

Yup. Hes the highest paid player in the league w/o being the the best player at his position. Makes you think the qbs should go 1,2,3,4 in the draft. Thats why the last few years weve seen teams send draft hauls to trade up for a QB they like. The Bills have the ammo to do that this year so i woulndt be surprised if a mess happens at the top of the draft.

You act like the Bills are the only QB needy team in the back half of the draft. Even if the Jaguars get Eli, they're gonna need a plan B. Just saying

The Jags are making it seem like they are sticking with Blake Bortles. They could be lying though. Im just saying the bills have the draft ammo to do so. And the Colts could be a suitor for the bills if their willing to trade down so far that is.....

The Cousins camp is just wetting their lips. Soon he will have the biggest contract.

I actually can’t wait until Cousins goes into Washington and destroys them.

I mean what else are they gonna do? Let him walk? He’s a franchise qb so you pay him franchise qb money which is whatever the franchise qb thinks they can get - 49ers had no provisos stopping them from paying him a shit ton - they have tons of cap and few other options so jimmy g had all the bargaining chips

And anyway I’d say this is a good deal for the 49ers having seen the guaranteed money - they gave jimmy g the total contract that means he and his agent get to say they got the largest deal in nfl history - but they also only gave half of it guaranteed - so if you’re worried about the small sample - the 49ers have covered themselves in case he trails off and disappoints in the next 3 years or so - his guaranteed avg/year is only 14.8 rather than 27.5...

My only question with cousins is can he still leverage 30m per year now that Washington aren’t in play? If I were to set the under/over at 29m/yr average what would you guys take?

Inching closer and closer to the first $150M QB contract. Something tells me Rodgers, Ryan or Brees will get around $140M contract.
