Around the NFL: News and Rumors

Oh good. 2/5 early Bama picks actually worked. Brilliant. Give Ozzie a medal.

Are you kidding? His bias has cost the team in other ways and it's undoubtedly there. It's not even up for debate, it's the truth. Since 2010 he's drafted Terrence Cody, Courtney Upshaw, CJ Mosley, Marlon Humphrey, and Tim Williams all within the first three rounds. Sure, the ratio probably goes up as I think Tim Williams is more likely to succeed than not, but Upshaw and Cody were such terrible picks that we didn't retain them and they the damn franchise back. And 5 players from the same school in a ten year period, which is likely to increase with this year btw(which I'm fucking pissed about) IS A TON. It's a lot, almost a whole drafts worth. His bias is obvious.

Lets account for the actions in the war room. It makes us so predictable that teams likely don't trade back with us for that reason. That might come back to bight us in the ass. What if we pull a Julio Jones trade for Calvin Ridley. A team would accept it in a heartbeat and expect us to call for it because not only do we need a WR... But because of Alabama. Take last draft. Sure, tons of Bama players were available and a few of them were even good prospects. But let's not forget, this is Ozzie. If we wanted to trade back no team would've accepted it. Oh. And we did take an Alabama player. Something the media has even noticed at this point. We're one of the most predictable teams on draft night. Don't believe me.

2010: Alabama Player
2012: Alabama Player
2014: Alabama player.

There was a four year period where EVERY TWO YEARS we drafted a Bama player early on. We skipped that in 2016(coincidence that this remains Ozzie's best draft in over a decade? I think not) so last year WE DRAFTED TWO IN THE FIRST FOUR PICKS. Probably to make up for it. Teams know who we're going to take if there's a Bama defensive player on the board. It's uncanny.

Not to mention teams know who we're scouting specifically since we dedicate a decent amount of our resources to going down there and scouting these prospects. And it showed last season that Ozzie might have been willing to give some leniency for a Bama player, which has pissed me off especially. Case and point: Cam Robinson. Who we were strongly considering in the first two rounds of the last draft which would have shown how hypocritical the franchise truly is. Why is that? Because the season before we passed on Larmey Tunsil, a superior prospect to Stanley, because Tunsil had some drug concerns. Cam Robinson was high on our board: with the same damn issues, and he was ARRESTED for it. Yet we were considering drafting him! Why? BAMA. No other reason. Tunsil was a superior prospect to Robinson in every way, shape, and form, and that video comes out hours before the draft and we pass up on him. The smart move especially with the benefit of hindsight since it looks like Tunsil sucks. But we were considering someone who committed a worse offense last season? Sorry, that makes Ozzie a hypocrite. And there's only one reason why he'd possibly overlook something like that.

Sorry. It's not overhyped. The evidence points to it. We not only have drafted a good amount of Bama players since the turn of the decade, but all of them have been early picks on defense. Only 2 have worked out so far. That number is more than likely to grow this year. This hurts us in so many ways. Teams know where we're going and probably don't want to trade up with us. The rest of the league knows our draft strategy now so if they want to take a certain prospect, they'll likely know that we are not looking that way and are going with a Bama guy instead. Oh and it shows that we are able to overlook actions of certain prospects because they went to fucking Bama.

It's undeniable. Ozzie has a significant bias towards Alabama players. It hurts us. We need to stop. And it won't until he steps down. "But Lost Decosta has been running the drafts". Who's been in charge of the big board: Ozzie. Thank god Decosta went to a smaller school.

I'd put a pretty penny on us taking an Alabama defender early this year. It is an even year
I'm about a third of the way through doing a count on this subject (got as far as the Texans if anyone wants to pick up the mantle before I get back to it later today: http://www.nfl.com/draft/history/fulldraft?teamId=2120&type=team) and out of the 12 teams I've done so far, only the Bills with their 3 Alabama players in the first three rounds come close to our 5 (and theirs includes Dareus). You've then got the Falcons and Packers on 2, and the Bengals, Browns, Lions and Texans each with 1 and the other five sides with 0. So far that would indicate a pretty clear Alabama bias from us, with Upshaw as probably the most egregious given even a lot of fans wanted Harrison Smith, Alshon Jeffrey etc. He was a decent player but sticking him against the guys we passed up is pretty depressing.

Is there even an Alabama ILB with a first round projection? Matter of fact, are there any Alabama defenders that are first round talents other from Fitzpatrick?
It seems there's a first-round ILB from Alabama every year and their scouting report reads more or less the same: great downhill run stuffer, decent but questionable in coverage, great leader of the defence, wraps up well in tackles, etc.

Maybe you can answer this but have we ever drafted an offensive player from Alabama?

On side note Ozzie should be banned from drafting any defensive players from Alabama for at least the next 3 yrs. Lawson (Auburn) over Tim Williams anyday.

Lol all facts but thats not what people wanna hear!

Hate to break up this Ozzie loves Alabama too much hate fest but the Pittsburgh Steelers have made two moves prior to free agency. Steelers just opened up $13.26M in cap space by restructuring the contracts of David DeCastro and DE Stephon Tuitt. Once again, Steelers pushing the salary down the line and I have a feeling they are about to overpay Bell which will kill their cap even more down the line.

TE Terry Jones in the 5th in 2002 and Le'Ron McClain in the 4th in 2007. So that's 2/9 and not in the rounds that actually mattered.

You're not wrong though. It's almost like he's trying to recreate some of those national title-winning sides. I would have blown a gasket if we'd taken Mosley over OBJ, which the FO seemed to indicate we would have (though whether that's lip service to the guy we took is another question).

Evans will go in the first round. Da’Ron Payne will as well
With Biscotti's "lighthearted" comments about us not taking a DT in the first round, I refuse to believe we'll even touch defense in the first.

Right?!?! I believe that was Ragland's report almost to a T.

And I'm ALL for it. Get your $$$ Bell. Don't let anyone else tell you otherwise.

The problem to me with the "Alabama bias" especially lately is that the Bama player was unquestionably the BPA. When Williams was drafted people said they would have been happy with him in 2nd and we got him in 3rd.

Humphrey was a surprise (but turned out to be correct) but the other options at that pick were also Bama players.

Mosley was a great pick that clearly worked and filled a dire need.

Can he keep having a Bama bias if his past 3 seem to be working out?

Alabama “bias” is very overblown and quite frankly annoying. oh nooooo one or two of the picks didn’t work out, big fucking deal. Most of them do. Ozzie has the inside scoop at Alabama and I honestly wouldn’t care if we took a player from one of the best college teams in the nation every year.

Rashaan Evans is a little bit different player.
He's better in coverage and, at least in college, he was a competent and legitimate edge rusher when put there.

i wouldnt say over pay cause he is a beast but like you said their cap gonna be messed up.

yea but they dont produce the best nfl players. Is rather show favortism towards college that produce good nfl players instead of college system players.

Looks like the Eagles just found out what it means to win a Super Bowl. They lost QB coach John Deflippo to the Vikings and now OC Frank Reich is expected to become the Colts new Head Coach.....

Unless he doesn't lol.

Im surprised the eagles coaches werent already talked about more...
defilippo was always going to be a good hire somewhere as an OC hire and i almost feel bad for the eagles that they didnt get the chance to promote him to OC in philly first lol
frank reich never got any media attention because defilippo was always the buzzy name because of all the work with the qb room this year but he's done an immense job for that side of the ball
im surprised jim schwartz didnt seem to really get a look in anywhere because he, for me, was the most obvious coach on that eagles staff to at least get interviews
