Around the NFL: News and Rumors

We might get some clarification on the Catch Rule as according to NFL Network's Judy Battista, the competition committee is considering eliminating the "going to the ground" portion of the catch rule.

Also once again the NFL is looking into making DPI a 15 yard penalty.
Not so sure this is a good idea at all. However, this will definitely be a win for defenses, after the NFL has given the edge to the offense within the rules over the years.

As well as there could be a Josh McDaniels Rule now. I don't know whether to find it funny or ridiculous that there will now be ANOTHER rule that will be tied to the Patriots. I think the patriots lead the league in rule influences now.

The report is that owners would allow teams to hire coaches DURING the playoffs instead of waiting for after a team is done in the playoffs. Which in my opinion does not solve the McDaniels problem. McDaniels agreed to become the Colts new Head Coach and backed out. So even if you allow teams to hire during the playoffs, it still doesn't stop a coach from backing out at the last second.

What the Owners need to do is say no coaches can be interviewed, or hired until the week after the Super Bowl. That way playoff teams won't be effected by coaches whose heads are already elsewhere and conflicts with the game planning for the playoffs or the Super Bowl.

i dont know why that wasnt a rule already tbh... and it would also fit the NFL MO of wanting year-round dominance of coverage - they dont need the hirings and firings to happen while the playoffs are going on but if they do it after the superbowl they dominate the discussion for the next few weeks and on goes the cycle...

should hopefully come cheaper - and maybe he'll want to come back to the place where he performed his best (especially now that doom and upshaw arent here to reduce his potential snaps)

he's also a cap casualty rather than a free agent so doesnt count against the comp pick formula
Ozzie love dem cap casualties and comp picks so this definitely fits his M.O. Plus, we could use interior pass-rush since the jury is still out on Willie and Pierce.

GOOD! I'm all in favor of this.

Chiefs said Marcus Peters wasn't worth the trouble and only three teams had interest
Such bullshit (not you, aimed at the Chiefs). Yes I'm going there, I bet a LOT had to do with his kneeling. No way in hell do you get a rid of player of his caliber unless there's more to the story.

there were stories about bad blood between him and the coaching staff all year - kind of culminated in his 1 game suspension (by his own team) after the whole thinking he was ejected palaver...

Hmm. Now this makes more sense especially if this before he kneeled/sat down (not sure when he started to do it).

i think there were a litany of behind the scenes issues but i have to imagine they'd be pretty drastic to want to shop him with 2 years of control left

He's been a prick in college, too. Probably even before that.
Last season he managed to completely piss off Beast Mode who practically raised him on the football field.

Mo Wilkerson has been cut

all those jets dlinemen that everyone thought should stop them go dline when they picked up leonard williams didnt turn out did they - snacks, richardson and wilkerson all now gone - leonard williams is the last one standing

How anyone could be in favor of reducing the DPI to just 15 yards is mind boggling to me. If I’m a DB about to get beat I’d just freaking tackle the guy if it means a 15 yard penalty as opposed to a 50 yard gain.

Correct. I certainly am not a fan of this rule if it does in fact happen

Every time this topic comes up this is exactly what I say! And if it does happen you better believe you'll see guys taking advantage of the rule
