Around the NFL: News and Rumors

So apparently the Bears and Dolphins were discussing a big trade as part of the deal that would see Landry land in Chicago. The trade would have been this, Bears trade the 8th Pick and RB Jordan Howard to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for the 11th Pick and Jarvis Landry. Now sources are saying that trade won't happen.

That would have been interesting if it happened and if it still somehow ended up happening. Dolphins moving up to 8 would have moved them up closer to make another trade up to get a QB in the top 5.
Actually, sources are now saying that was never even a discussion.

I'm calling it now - Landry to Baltimore for 2018 and 2019 picks. Dolphins to carry portion of this year's salary, too.
I'm generally opposed to trading for Landry or making the kind of run at him that will be required, but I have to admit I'd rather have him than our next few 2nd round picks.

I think his production and hands warrant 2 picks although I'm sure two 2nd rounds won't be required.
That deal ^^ would assume Dolphins sign him to multi year deal that works for the Ravens and Landry, get 4th and 3rd (2019) and end up happy about paying just 40% of that $16M tag.
Then we also draft Washington at 16 and TE in 2nd.

There is a new report saying that an AFC Team has offered the Eagles a second round pick for Nick Foles. Also Peter King says it would at least take a 1st & 4th in order to acquire him, meaning Buffalo would jump in on that. I'm assuming the Browns are the ones who offered a second.

No way in hell I’d give a 1st for Nick Foles. He did well in the Eagles system with a vast array of weapons but I don’t trust him anywhere else.

The only system that is the Eagles would be Frank Reich in Indy. Unless for some reason they feel Luck's injury is too much and trade him to a team who thinks Luck can bounce back. Then trade for Foles.

Apparently the Cousins sweepstakes is down to 2, Vikings and the Jets. Jets already are planning backups as they fear he is headed to Minnesota.

So per Rapsheet the Rams are tagging a player tomorrow - the problem is that he's reporting that they still dont know inside the building whether they are tagging sammy watkins or lamarcus joyner...

Hopefully its Joyner, Watkins woukd be a good fall back if the asking price of Landry is too much.

This is pretty appalling :

Texans to shun players who knelt for anthem?

Two NFL agents told the Houston Chronicle that the Texans "aren't interested" in any players who have knelt during the national anthem to protest police brutality.

We posted this blurb under S Eric Reid because he is a free agent who knelt during the anthem. Per the Chronicle's Jerome Solomon, "it is considered to be understood" within the Texans' organization that owner Bob McNair would not sign off on any free agents "who (have) participated in protests or are likely to." In fact, Solomon passes along that there are "many who believe if McNair could field a team with all-white, all-conforming all-pro talent, he would."

Talk about appalling:

According to TMZ Sports, a "high-ranking U.S. military official" cautioned the Ravens against signing free agent Colin Kaepernick before the 2017 season.

The Ravens had a quarterback need when Joe Flacco was nursing a back injury and Ryan Mallett was struggling mightily in training camp. Coach John Harbaugh reportedly sought "advice from some trusted friends," one being a "high-ranking" member of the U.S. military, who reportedly told Harbaugh that Kaepernick should only be signed if he agreed to follow a "set of specific guidelines," presumably including a warning against kneeling during the national anthem. Instead, the Ravens signed Thad Lewis, who hasn't thrown a pass in an NFL regular season game since 2013.

I hope this isn't true but I'm not ruling that out.

Keep in mind all that is is what Harbs friend allegedly said.
I have little doubt Harbs saught advance from multiple sources. It was a very complicated issue.
Nothing in that report suggests that actually took place nor was that the stance Harbs or the Ravens took.
